    Love how your Coupe turned out -- it's awesome!

    You're probably best-off uploading the video from your smart phone to YouTube and posting the Youtube link here.

    Ok so the story on the engine is pretty cool. My dad is a long time drag racer and has been an innovator in taking cylinder head porting to the limit since I can remember. He has been grinding forever and so it would only be fitting that the engine for the wedding coupe be all that we could make it from as many vintage internal speed parts and highly modified GM parts as we could.

    Block;
    The base for this project is a pretty neat piece. I stumbled across this block at the local scrap yard! Its a real 69 LT1 350 that was standard bore, standard journal. 50 bucks. COOL! So the block was magged, bored .030 and deck plate honed. We also took the deck to zero.

    The crank is a forged gm 350 crank turned 10 10, rods are 5.7 Crower vintage pieces, and the pistons are an old set of vintage TRW forged, flat top pieces. More on those later.

    Cylinder heads;
    461 castings, 2.02 , 1.60 S.S. valves installed, milled to 64cc chambers, and ported as big as he dared. These heads are proven and were on 2 versions of an early engine that my dad had in a drag car back in the early 80's. These heads will not accept hardened valve seats and will require a lead substitute.

    The Cam;
    The cam is an old Crower solid roller grind. 00427 is the grind number. Total duration is pretty short at around 290, and the lobe center is a tight 103. Lift is .614 and .620. The rockers are older model Crane and the lifters are Comp solid rollers.

    The pistons required deeper and wider notches to clear the valves so I made up a jig to make the modifications in our Grizzly mill. The piston notches when finished were all exactly the same, weight matched and the rotating assembly was balanced.

    The intake is the first of the Victor Jr models and the carb is an old 4150 with the choke horn milled off.

    The ignition is electronic for one reason only. They work. The old man, as old school as he is, demanded that we run MSD stuff so that is what we went with.

    The flywheel is a lightweight, billit steel unit and the clutch is a solid hub, stock car piece from RAM.

    The whole combo, we guess will be about 11 to 1 and will make an honest 470 HP, witch is just about all the little coupe should ever need and let me tell you, it EFFIN RIPS.

    Man Many Many thanks to my Dad for all his help. He is the man. And he knows I know it haha.

    When we went for the first ride he had a grin from ear to ear.

    Pics to fallow.

    Thanks guys. I am still trying to upload video of the car on You Tube and it says they are pending? I'm probably doing something wrong. Anyone else know what's going on there?

    Man, that sits just right! Great Job! I really like the full fenders. Do you know if these valve covers will work on a 265?[IMG]

    Thanks for the kind words guys. I'm not sure on the 265 question but maybe. Honestly the only reason we used those valve covers is due to the stud girdle. I have acquired some valve cover stackers since and will be fastening them to the engine asap.

    On a more pressing note, the big day and the whole reason that the coupe was built is fast approaching. This Saturday is the wedding and I cannot thank the people involved enough for their time and patience.

    Sam (the wife to be) has been wonderful toward the project and has helped me all along the way.

    My dad for all his help, knowledge, constructive criticizem, and the use of so many of his high end speed parts!

    Kelly (father in law) for all the extra tools, help and motivation to keep going.

    And my friends, Jimmy, Ben and Connor. Its been a hell of a few months and I owe you all a shot and a beer!

    Ill keep the post updated with wedding burnouts and good times.

    Thanks

    The pics reminds me of a time that the two cops beside me and my hot rod stated, "Boy, you laid 96' of rubber before you shifted gears!"

    Later when I told my dad, he said I should have told them, "96'? I should have laid at least 110'..."
    I thought I was pushing my luck, so I kept quiet...

    Light em up!

    Thanks Kev. Hope to see you again some day.

    Hahaha. Ya you have to at least use your conscience once in a while. My town is littered with the 100' skinny burns, and all the car dudes know where there comin from.

    Thanks sir. It means a lot!

    Those valve covers will not fit a 265 if it has the original heads. The 1955-1959 SBC heads require staggered bolt pattern valve covers. Not many companies are currently producing staggered valve covers (I think GM might sell repop Corvette finned ones and Offenhauser still makes theirs), but you can find a set of finned aluminum staggered valve covers (Corvette, Cal Custom, Offenhauser, Edelbrock, etc.) for pretty reasonable as they aren't in high demand.

    Hopefully this winter. I am currently fitting the hood and trying to get a top figured out. Then ill yank it down and make it black as night. Pie crusts tucked under those fenders are also in order as the current tires don't stand an ice cube's chance in hell.

    A little update. I don't have the wedding pics back yet, but here is some progress on the car. I ended up dropping the rear a little more just to get the rear tire in better position.

    I also got the hood all finished up and mounted as to hide the mighty mouse from view. Here is a couple pics I snapped last night.
