Ultimately, I'd like to see people respond to some of the other 327 threads in the index, just to let them see the light of day, the 327 has been quiet too long. Granted, some were requested info type threads that the original poster had walked away from but I'm sure people can find something in them that they can relate to, learn from, add to, etc.
Here's a picture of a bone stock 1965 L-79 327 in my Corvette. I took it out for a romp last Wednesday. Still pulls, sounds, and feels like nothing else! Love it! I had a grin the rest of the night. Actually I still do! Oh yeah, it's missing the chrome covers over the spark plug wires.
A 69 327 came out of a wagon was originally a 2bbl powerglide. I installed new rings bearings a 30-30 cam. Extensively reworked 57 heads and C4B intake . I need to get it installed in the 55 in my avatar.
Large journal 327 , this block is .030 , four bolt main , 6 inch **** rods , forged speedpro L79 style pistons , 2.02 heads , Schneider hydraulic cam , mid 60’s Weiand , holley 650 dp. Long tube headers that might be a little too big. If I were to do it again I would have picked more compression, cause it sounds really good. Next steps are different aluminum heads .
Here's one under boost @ 6300 rpm... Econo build, 68 large journal, standard bore, new hyper pistons, 3/8 arp on stock rods, 882 heads, new HD springs, lathe turned Locks (key!) Comp cams nos/blower cam... Had about a grand in the long block said/done, only sent out rods/pistons, Vertex, dyers, two carters, everything else done in house... Sold truck . haven't found anything lately to put it in... Second one in pic. Is a Small journal soon to be injected(mechanical)

My 64 Corvette had a 327 in it when I bought it. It was said the car had had 14 different engines in it before I bought it, including a big block and the front cross member was notched to clear a big block lower pulley. I have no idea what was done to the engine except the seller, a buddy of my brother-in-laws said it was a 350 hp 327. Ran really strong with a muncie 4 speed and a 4.10 posi rear gear. One day I changed the 600 carb out for a 900 Holley 3 barrel and it REALLY ran hard then! I was blown away...loved that engine.
65, 327, 2.02 heads, crane cam, 650 holley, Sanderson headers. Sent from my SM-A102U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
The other 327 in the garage right before I put it back into my O/T 68 Camaro where it belongs since Chevy put it there originally, lol. Bottom end is still L30 spec, so flat tops and cast bottom end. Comp 30/30 grind, 69 Z/28 Intake, 4150 Holley, the 68 only heads with no accessory holes and temp sender outlet. The thing just rips and loves the rpm.
Hey guys, Got directed over here by DDDenny. Getting ready to put intake on my old 68 327 block and and curious about possible hp numbers. This is a motor I bought with a old v drive boat in the early 90's. I've had it and knew I always wanted to build a 327. Bored .60 over as it sat for extended amount of time. Finally cleaned up at 60. Forged steel crank polished. Entire rotating ***embly balanced. 462 camel heads 2.02/1.60. 1.6 Roller rockers. All oil galleys have been cleaned and enlarged for better oil flow. Stock resized rods 9.875:1 compression. Lunatic voodoo 701 cam (256/262). Edelbrock rpm intake with Holley 650 vaccuum 2ndaries. 1 5/8" long tube headers in 44 Flowmasters. Not a crazy build but a nice shop truck motor. Looking at possible hp numbers for this motors. Behind it will be a Muncie m21 and Ford 9" with 3.55 Posi. I'm guessing 325-375hp??? Any guesses??? Thanksgiving (Denny, FYI, I'm in Grants P*** )
I’ll bite. ‘65 with Sportsman heads, roller rockers, Weiand intake, points (for now), and a few Cal Custom goodies.
Old mangy 327-250 hp 68 truck engine, never apart, might stillrun. I've had it for 15 or so years. Will be using it (maybe) once the ch***is its sitting in is finished. Got a 327 small journal block, that might get used instead with a 283 steel crank. 462 heads either way, whichever one gets built/used. I've used many years ago, but the best was a 365 hp fitted block, ***embled with Stahl & ***oc. crank, 492 angle plug heads, factory short track cam 754, 1st design Tarantula w/750 double pumper, ****** headers, Mallory Double Life ignition, Z28 oiling system. Put it in a 67 SS Chevelle (I hate pig blocks, every garbage truck used to have them back in the day). Why I didn't loose my license with that car, or worse, I don't know...
Bringing this back up. Old mangy is going to the engine shop soon. Hopefully the 462 heads will be usable. Got an Edelbrock Torker (the original model) and a 650 dual feed Holley for it. Shooting for 330 hp. I'm not crazy any more. I can do all of the damage I can handle with that much power!
No news. Things got postponed due to dropping the front spring mount and spring on my left foot a while ago. Still need to send the weight jacker to jebbesson as he might use it on his 50s tube frame sports rod. After what it did to me I don't want it in my shop! Thanks for the reminder tho. I'll have to call Jack Boyd this week and get started on the 327.
Just an update to bring this thread back up. Old mangy is down to a short block. And RATS! It's got a cast crank... Oh well, moving on
News flash! Old mangy is apart, ready to go to the engine shop. It and it's slightly older brother, a 66 327-300 hp block, and a 283 forged crank, are going to have their day at the engine spa! If everything checks out with both, I'm going to have 2 short blocks to choose from. Now to decide which one gets the new heads, and which one gets the 462 castings.
Back in April for my birthday, I bought this 327. Guy was pulling it out of his Camaro for one them modern swap. It is a oddball 68/early 69 large journal 327. When I went and looked at it, instantly recognized the head markings and bought the motor without much negotiation. The heads are 69 186 Z/28 pieces, 2.02 valves, have had some heavy port work, new screw in studs, new rockers and springs, new valves, etc. Heads alone were worth what I paid for the long block. Block is a fresh rebuild as well, fresh hone marks and no ridge. Bored 40 over and looking to be a cast bottom end on the crank and pistons. The main issue with the motor was 2 lobes on the cam were flat. So gonna flush the block and do a mild rebuild and most likely stick it my C10 pickup.
