i never got beat in because my hero Ryan saved me from that.

i think my first or second post was about my sweet 74 plymouth duster (i should of gotten flamed royally)

Liar! You've been on here way longer than me! My rep is bad enough without your Aussie dream-time stories!

  4. I found this site like many other here from HRD site. However by the time I signed on I had just missed all the Aaron issues, and know one wanted to talk about it anymore. I think I used to be UtahMike / hooligan / and now the current. Without this site I would have not ever met Ham, Buick59 who offered to help me weld my trim holes on my old Ford.(where are you), or any of my current club mates. Its a great resource thanks Ryan..

I don't recall when I started checking out the HAMB on a regular basis. I did finally learn how to rebuild a carburetor because of real world tips and tricks posted on the HAMB.

Even as late as I joined, things were pretty wild.

If you were a newbie and couldn't prove you owned an actual car, forget it. You were toast.

No one posted a picture of themselves or a friend. Photoshoppers then took them and converted them into almost x rated pics, then reposted them.

There was alot of drama then, but real drama. Every winter holiday season someone would post about how they couldn't take it anymore and was going to commit suicide. The HAMB always talked them out of it.

  7. Maybe nobody said anything to me worth remembering before you arrived.

That line has come in very handy on many occasions when I've needed a snappy retort.

Ah, I see, you're playing me... and I fell for it. Well call me gullible! One day, when I meet you in person, remind me to kick you in the shins for that.:D

I cannot remember when I found the HAMB--It's hard to keep track of time when you're trying to live in the '30's.
I too found the JJ first, and ignored posts about the HAMB on other boards on the assumption that it was just more damn streetrodders...same way I missed the early editions of TRJ!
I think...not sure, really...I first came here when someone posted a notice about a good Colubia on Ebay AND a link to a HAMB post containing a good expert analysis of the Columbia detail shots in that auction. I bought the Columbia, my first experience in sending huge amounts of money to random strangers online, and started reading...have since bailed outta Ebay, but stayed here. Never did an intro--just started sneaking in replies to questions I could answer if no one else posted the right stuff. No one ever noticed. Mebbe I'll do an intro someday.
This is the best car mag on the planet, period. Someone here knows absolutely damn everything a car nut might ever need to know.

RF turned me on to this place way back when we still worked together at Primedia. I signed up and saw how badly everybody was getting torn apart, it was sort of like getting jumped into a gang via the internet. I never posted anything because I didn't want to deal with it.

I came back a few years later and took the beat-down from the internet tough guys and have been here on-and-off ever since. Made some really good friends because of this place on the web. Hard to believe that the internet could have that sort of impact on real life...

May be taken out of context, but that pretty much sums it up for me. Build it and drive it.

Thanks, HAMB, for lifetimes of shared knowledge, triumphs, failures, kaleidoscope personalities, and just plain hysterical shit. To have only found you earlier.

"The Best of the HAMB" by Ryan Cochran, sounds like a good read.

  12. I'll look forward to it, so long as you wear sneakers and not those high heeled pointy toe things that gurlz often wear. :D

I may be over for the March Meet or Paso Robles next year.

I'm fairly new myself but I don't feel Bruce needs to do an intro, he's has prolly done more for people here than most.

I picture him in a room with shelves lining each wall, sitting at a big old wooden desk, and smokin' a pipe and glasses slipped down on his nose (not to be confused with Santa Claus!)

That's the exact same description I gave of him a few months back! :)

Nah, I think he should. He seems to be more mysterious than Ryan........come on Bruce, give us an intro! Should we throw things at him until he does?

How did you get all of this Ford knowledge before such things as the HAMB!?

  16. It got to a point where The Hamb came up in every conversation when meeting guys who are building cars. I thought I would check it out and posted a few questions about things I needed to know, and low and behold, alot of great recommendations were expressed. Since then I try to help others if I can and try not to get too involved with some of the bashing that takes place. Some of these guys really know thier shit and it ends up being a valuable tool. Anyhow, if you read this far, thanks and good luck.

  19. Fonzi told me about the site when I was living in California and Krupanut got me lurking on this site when I lived in Texas... but Magnet was responsible for me busting out of the closet when I moved to Wisconsin...!:D

Looking at the old format, I almost forgot how to use it!

Too bad the "secret messages" are gone.
Those were better than some of the posts!

  28. At the suggestion of my cousin (Big Ric) I joined in 2001; jumped right in and and got my ass flamed hard because I said I respect the work that goes into "goldchainer" rods. Pretty much just lurked after that and re-joined in '07 (couldn't remember my username/password)...I think it was "hellbilly" or "hotrodhellbilly" or something ridiculous like that. I was 23 years old at the time, hahaha!

    This is the HAMB I remember;
