Nice work, John! Sorry I missed you guys at the Race of Gentlemen. I saw the black A sedan a couple times and had hoped to catch up.

Slow progress but got the visor fitted and my air condition all together. Onto mounting the seat.

Finished up shaving the firewall, welded up the front floor pans, and bolted down the trans tunnel. Ready to break it down the paint under the car and plumb the brake lines.

Very nice! I like the detail work, like taking the time to roll the beads in the inner firewall section. Should look great in paint! Bob

Pulled the body back off to prep it for paint. Going to start spraying the underside and inside floor pans. Banged out all of the brake lines. Just waiting for the trans cooler to come in to finish the trans lines. Capped the frame rails out back.

Banged out a little nerf bar tonight out of some 5/8" solid rod and a harbor freight pipe bender. I'm pretty happy with it. Chroming the headlight bar.

  15. Looking great!
    A few questions:
-Did the bodyman that chopped the top also spray the black primer?
-Did he media blast anything (e.g. inside surfaces or down in the hard-to-access crevices) prior to spraying it?
-I noticed your brake pedal is on the right side of the steering column. What kind of gas pedal are you using? Got pictures?

    Thanks,
    Gary

Hey Gary thanks for asking. The body guy did spray the black primer. Its DP90. Sandable primer before sealer apparently. We didn't do any sandblasting. I sanded everything down by hand before he got the body. It took a long time but I cleaned 95% of the body. The brake pedal is a Lokar spoon pedal. We mounted the column first where I wanted it, then we placed the gas pedal where my right foot laid naturally on the inside of the firewall. I welded a square-stock spacer to the inside of the firewall, then I bolted the pedal assembly to that so theres no holes on the firewall. The pedal is really nice and sturdy. Ill post a picture of it later tonight. Doesn't look like I took any close ups of that.

Somehow it seems strange to be covering up all that fine work. I understand why you need to do it but at least you still will have photos of it in it's "natural" state. :p

All raptor lined up. Terrible lighting but I'll get better pics down the road.

This build is 100% what Im looking to do with my '30 coupe. Im glad you are showing things a bit more indepth. Like you, I have done a ton of research but nothing has been as extensive as Id like but still grateful for those before me. If you ever want to come to Indiana to help with mine, you let me know. Im sure I'll have a lot of questions.

Haha I'm glad my posts are able to help. That's why I take the time to post more detailed pictures and descriptions. If I'm ever passing through I'd be sure to stop by.

You should be very proud of your fabrication skills.
This is a great build - very classy and well thought out.
    Will follow the thread.
    Thank you!

Thanks a lot I really appreciate that. This is my first hot rod build from the ground up, but I've been able to mess around with a lot of smaller projects before this that I've carried over ideas from. My dad has been able to pull tons of tricks out of his sleeves for this project as well.

Playing around with some fabric swatches alongside the paint swatch. Going for a subtle mid century vibe. Fabric swatches came from joybird.com. Light really effects the brown tones of the fabric and paint. But you get the idea.

While the frame is getting painted right now I was able to start ordering engine parts. First on the list were headers. I ended up ordering the flash chrome finish driveshaft style headers with inserts and baffles from gear drive. Completely knocked it out of the park. Super excited to see these on the car. Yes the flash chrome finish is not perfect because of the minimal metal prep that goes in before they dip these, but it basically resembles old chrome or new hardware finish. Perfect for my car and what I can afford.
