Rules require a pinion / anti- rotation device of some kind. Can't be too
careful here. One of the coolest things about a slingshot is that when you
smoke the tires on the burn-out...you can see em! Nice project.

  3. isn't there some tech along the lines of "anti-rotation device mandatory?"

  4. If you look at many later model front engine chassis, say, a '69 SPE car for example, that sort of anti rotation is almost always a given..you can never have enough rear end support. We have put a solid 1/8th in. plate mounted around the snout of the third member and down to a bottom crossmember on the last two rails we've built just for that extra insurance. Most people that dont know shit about diggers see sitting on the rear end and say "gee golly, that thing looks dangerous what if it explodes the ring gear out the back of the carrier???" think of as many front engine rails ran and how many times that problem occured ...hmm...not as dangerous as you would think...

What Rich said is correct, Chrisman had a rear end rotate and chew him up as well as Rich Guasco...but im hijacking this thread..

51Box, you all are kickin ass! Were finishing up this lyndwood with a blown olds, maybe we can drop a little less hopped up carbuerated engine in our bitch and come run up north one day...:D

The rearend should stay together with the small block in there...Once yu stab a blower on there and direct drive i think you will be ok...plus I dont think it will be hooking up well off the line....The bottom link is a must so if something does break the rearend wont roll back on you...joe correct me if im wrong...thing is killah

  6. Have you fabbed up a coupler cover yet? I dig the way your runnin it yoke to yoke with a u joint...same way it was done for years...

I actually just picked up a nice slab of 3/8 plate today to make a cover over that u-joint. As far as the anti-rotation, who knows what can go wrong if you kiss the wall and something breaks, all I know is I dont want that pinion staring me in the face. The yoke guard will also end up enclosing the some of the pinion area so I can probably tie together in the front as well as the dog leg in the back. Thanks for the good words guys.

ok, i feel completely retarded for asking these questions but i am totally ignorant about slingshot dragsters and most of drag racing in general so if someone wants to answer without mocking me it would be appreciated!
-i see drums on the back and one pedal. is that one brake pedal and you're just matching gears to shift or is the pedal a clutch and you have a handbrake/ chute to slow down?
-explain the shifting with the t-handle. is the pattern just straight forward or back? i don't see how else this would work.

awesome build, though. it looks like a blast!

The pedal on the left is the clutch. The brake is is done by hand with that tall lever on the right. The T hande under the rearend is for reverse and the T handle on top is pull towards you for 2nd and push forward for 3rd. SlickWilly there's no sleep till it's done, work all week thrash all weekend!

    Joe,
Keep up the great work, glad to see it coming together so quick, looks killer. Love the shifters, and pedals. those front wheels worked out nicely. I pulled mine apart for final welding and ready for paint, should be going back together in the next couple weeks for the final time before we run. I'll post a thread soon.

Thanks so much for putting up pics of the "little" things. I have been looking all over for pics on HOW these things are put together. You've answered a lot of my questions just via photos. Thanks and I'm in love with this ride! Continue as fragged!

Got a couple more things done this weekend. Made up the mounts for the tank. [IMG]
Then I was going to use some 3/8 plate to make the u-joint cover but after looking at it figured it was overkill. So I had some nice cold rolled 1/4in plate 6 inches wide which was a perfect width covered all the shit that could take your foot off. We found a piece of 4 inch pipe welded some 1/2in rods to it to bend the plate over, I needed about 5inch clearance for the rear yoke to clear. Got the rose bud out and after about half a day had it shaped and fitting nice. Made up a little box tube bracing to mount to.

A little mud and she will look nice.

Not to de-rail, here's a pic of our A/F cars anti rotation and shaft and coupler cover. Just thought there are a lot of dragster guys asking questions on this thread. Maybe should start a pic and question answer thread elswhere on slingshots. Lippy
