Went up to winterport dragway Saturday, only got 3 runs in because of rain. Car feels really good, hopefully next weekend will be better weather.
Well the first run I took it easy to see if everything felt ok went 9.00 at 60 then it rained for a while went back out went 7.50 at 96 then the next run spun alot and went 7.80 at 97. On the last p***the car started breaking up and it turned out to be a bad condensor in the mag. So hopefully the weather will be nice next weekend, and try to put it in the 6s
Joe, the car looks great and I'm glad you got to run it. Now the fun begins, sorting the car out, making p***es and enjoying the fruits of your labor. You guys are great guys and I hope Scott builds one after his A is done. Is there anything I can do to help you get the car sorted out? Not that you need help, sounds like you got it well on its way. Just let me know.
Thanks Brad, everything worked really well. We took a rideover to Bangor Saturday night and picked up a condensor, came back installed it and it sounded back to normal. The only thing I'm going to do is pull the secondary carbs off and try to get them to seal better. They leak air by and it makes the engine lazy coming back to idle.
Awesome!!!...you guys kicked **** on this project...it looks fantastic, I can't wait to see it in person!!!!!!!!!
Me? I love your choice of colour. (For obvious reasons.<<<<<<) Wish you lived nearer . We could team tour. You would win of course but it would still be fun. Don
Don, head across the border, Rt. 90 east, 495,north in MA, and you'll be at New england dragway in 9 hours or so. Not too bad, takes us 12 hours to get to Thompson Ohio. Joe, no doubt you guys are going to have a lot of fun with it. Who went up with you?
congrats on the first runs man, good luck on getting it into the 6's, you coming down to rochester today?
I went up with him Brad and I had a blast we stayed with a freind of ours that lived about 20minuits away, it was good cause we got to use his FLH as our tow vehicle to pull the car around at the track.hopefully the weather stays on his side for next weekend.
Thats awesome, an FL hahahaha, that would make for a cool pic. Glad you guys had a blast, I'm hoping to be able to join you guys before the end of the season, I had some set backs with the shop, so its been tough to finish mine up. where is he takin it next weekend?
Oh, nice. Thats awesome. Enjoy the car and post some updates, bring Matt with you guys so he can put up some videos.
****shoot, The base ch***is is $1100. The TE-440 style that we built for Joe. PM me if you want any info.
"you coming down to rochester" Are you guys talking about Rochester NY. I know that wasnt directed at me but I wanna know. Just a few miles accross the water from me? I have heard of a track there. Anyone know any info? BTW That is a wonderful job on that ch***is and car. I like it a lot! Don
So are you running up at Winterport again? I'm not far from there, I'm in the ellsworth area out by the coast. You running would be a pretty good excuse to drag the kids and wife to the strip. What are you running in the block, just water? How much time do you have to burnout, stage and make your run before things get hot?
Ya I am just running water in the block, my second and third run was actually back to back and when I was done she was about 190 degrees
Well after I turn onto the return road I stab it and the shut it off and coast back down to the tower, then get pulled back. I could definitely drive back to the pits with out it over heating though.
I spent the afternoon down in Winterport today and was able to meet 51box, a coupe and a friend of theirs (sorry guys, I'm **** when is comes to remembering names). The car's really really nice, with high quality work throughout. Nothing looked rushed, last minute or slapped together. Everyone involved with the build has something to be proud of with this car. I snapped some pictures and shot some video of the car running against another vintage style FED. The pictures should be below and I'll link to the video once it's uploaded. http://www.5foot2.com/forum_pics/the_crew2.jpg http://www.5foot2.com/forum_pics/joes_fed.jpg http://www.5foot2.com/forum_pics/ford_fed.jpg
Here's the link to the video. It's not very crisp after youtube's filters beat on it, but you can clearly see Joe having some fun with the frontend lifting. The ford looked to be running a late model 302 or a derivative, an automatic trans and a radiator laying flat between the rails. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbsToAOLafA
Thanks for the video and pics, good meeting you today. There was a small turnout today and I got quite a few runs in. The best was a 7.093 and fastest was a 102.97mph. We played with the carbs and jetted them up changed the plug gap and she charges hard once I shift into high gear. Off the line is a different story, it either puts them up in smoke or pulls the wheels. I'm going to put a tach in it and try to get out of the hole with some consistency.
