If there's no caption, it's because the caption does not offer any new information. These Ca. Hist. Soc. captions look like they were written to describe the scene to a blind person. There are often no dates. I have mercifully edited the captions. Here is an example: Photograph of the interior view of a Los Angeles automobile factory showing workers on an assembly line, ca.1925. To the left of center, four men use one arm to hold onto the frame of an automobile that is hanging above them. Below the frame sits the body of the car with the four men at the side of each wheel. To left of the men stands a fifth man who appears to be inspecting the work of the four men on the assembly line. The assembly line is visible stretching into the distance while the back end of a car in the right foreground shows the next step in the line. Wonder how many cars around the world lay claim to being the first ? Photograph of a man sitting in Hayne's open-air automobile<WBR>, California<WBR>, ca.1900. This is America's oldest automobile<WBR>. It was built by Elwood Haynes of Kokomo, Indiana, and was exhibited in Chicago in 1895 and chased off the streets by the police (according to Scribner's Popular History of American Inventions<WBR>).
