Bowling Green would be a sweet place to race. I just found a ride down and a place to stay, so God willing I'll be there.

That's the best offer I've had in a long time. We need to get together and talk. The lovely bride made me choose between her and my love for Hot Rodding. She wanted me to go back to working a normal job. Do you have any boxes. She'll be moved out at the end of March. We'll stay friends, but after 20 years of trying to change me, she's giving up. We'll have to have a beer and talk about your Hot Rod soon. Send me a PM and I'll peddle my bike over to your house.

The engine was in a barn in Akron Ohio for 44 years untouched. Joe had given the engine to a guy that had come to look at a lathe he had for sale, when they moved the lathe this cat seen the engine and asked what they were doing with it. The guy bought the lathe and got the engine for free, with understanding that when he blew it up in his steet hot rod he would return all the speed parts. Well he unloaded it in his barn, never put it in his hot rod, and 44 years later listed it for sale. I bought it for my Model-A project i was working on at the time. Not knowing what car this came from, I started doing research, well, iwas at a swap meet and found a picture of the car in a 79 US Nationals yearbook and it was decided that this car had to be recreated.........................More later, i have to go to work. THANKS MIKE!!!!!! Joe Hollish also say's Thank you. Todd.

  8. Todd, that's an incredible story! What are the odds of all those stars falling into place so that the right engine and the right guy wind up in the right place?
I can't wait to meet you and see the car.

    Todd,
Can you post the shots of the 1959 trophy and Jacket from the National. I need to come back over and get some shots for my article.

    Can I go with you??....pretty please :D

Sorry to hear about all the drama. I had no clue. I still remember the day you proposed to her inside the diner in The Henery Ford museum so many years ago. You know where I live, come over anytime. There is always beer in the fridge and I've got a strong shoulder you can cry on.

GREAT story, thanks. Looking forward to seeing the car run this summer. I noticed you live in Ypsi. I was just there last night at the Sidetrack. Love their burgers. Anyway, we were cruzn around afterwards looking at houses in that area trying to determine which one was Preston Tuckers. My friend Scott pointed out one he thought it was. Do you know by chance? See ya around I sure.

That thing is cool...have fun with it, while holding on...

Everytime I drive by old barns, I always wonder what could be stashed in them...A lot of racing history in this state...

Man, what an incredible bit of racing history! Glad it's being brought back from the dead. I can't imagine the guts it took to pilot that thing at that speed. I wouldn't want to be in the driver's seat if that rear end decided to grenade!!!! Bye bye jewels  Love that chain driven blower. Everything about that car is insane. Can't wait to see it finished.

I know where that house is. It's about three blocks away from Sidetrack.

We were probably at the right one then. A huge Victorian with a newer warehouse style building kinda behind and to the right side of the house?

I'll make sure to come and get you when I go back over there. We had a lot of fun back in the day. I loved going skiing and hanging out. I'll swing by for a beer, but there are no tears in the break up. We're still friends, she just saw that I was too into the Hot Rodding scene and she figured she needed to find happiness before she got to old. She knows I love what I'm doing and doesn't want to hold me back.
On another note, I'm trying to get 4 digit horsepower out of my Cobra for a series of articles. I'll have to take you out on Telegraph when I get it done. I'm setting it up like a Drag Radial car that you can drive every day. I'm sick right now, so I won't be going back to Todd's for at least 3 more days. If you can drive, Todd would dig your car.
    I'll see you soon.

Can I come by in a few days and copy that CD. I think I have a line on some old 8mm footage of the car. It will be on VHS. Look forward to seeing you soon.

Well I'm not sick so don't come over till your feeling better.:p As for driving to Todd's, I can drive but it would be my daily as Big Olds is down in TN getting all his stone chips, road rash and other paint issues taken care of. I probably won't bring him back till April. I'd love to show you "Rusty Olds" in the garage though. When I do bring Big Olds home I would LOVE to drive him over and show Todd.

Do you and Todd know about the Garage Mahal in Ypsi? Kinda across the railroad tracks from the Wooden Nickle? About 100 cars inside a warehouse. It's open to visitors the first Saturday of the month. A good pal of mine has a few of his cars in there. I'm taking some out of state friends that will be intown for Autorama over there on Saturday March 7th 9am if you guys want to go. We'll probably hit the Hudson Museum then Sidetracks for lunch then head downtown to the Autorama. Love to have ya join us.

Hey man, love that car! It is super cool!!!!!! Don't get any better than this!!!!!!!!\

Just my 2 cents, its history, big time......ditch the chain though......dangerous.

Naw, since its origional.......keep it and build a bulletproof guard for it. This just comes from a person that puts the ole noggen just a few inches from the front drive pulley on a somewhat regular basis. Yes, as you may guess.....I'm a little on the hard-of-hearing side! Ha!

I feel like I got bubonic plague. If I survive,I should be ready to go in few days. I want to go to the Garage Mahal with you, and the hudson museum sounds great. We got to get by Todd's before AutoRama. I stop by after the black death leaves my system. I need to see the "Rusty Olds". See you soon.

Thank you very much, I will. Looking forward to meeting you as well as Todd. From the photo that Mike posted I take it you live downriver?? If I'm not mistaken that Willys use to belong to a pal o mine that sold it when he moved to Florida about 8 years ago??

I was in awe with this thing ever since I was it the first time on "Ingenuity in Action" filmed in 1958 @ the Detroit Dragway.

Thank You PunkAssGearhead88. That was really cool. I was only 6 months old when they ran that race. I grew up going to Detroit Dragway and I'm old enough to have watched them race 4 cars at a time down that track. I wish it was still open. I must have gone to that track 300 times at least. Thanks again for posting the video.
