    My wife has never liked the pearl white accent color I used on our '52 DeSoto wagon. In truth, I don't really care for it either, I used it because I had 3 quarts of white and 3 quarts of Arctic Pearl, not the best reason it turns out, for color choice. She's right, it's too stark a contrast to look good.
    I'm also going to repaint our '62 Impala this spring when we get back to Michigan, the same color ginger on the bottom and a shade lighter cream for the roof. I think the same creamy color would look better on the wagon with it's cranberry metallic body.
    The DeSoto also needs a new driveshaft made, as it vibrates at 65 (too long for the diameter tubing it's made from, and the Impala is going to say "Buh-bye" to the 4.11 gears. 44C4D6F7-6F79-48E5-8B6B-EE2CC1C38089.jpeg 375072DF-B4C2-44D6-91B5-16F4F10DE50D.jpeg 470C4C7F-4C08-44DF-A935-4359B19F2CA0.jpeg I'm going to be busy, I have to woodgrain all the garnish moldings for the DeSoto's interior too, but it'll be good to get those things done.

    Same here. FB48 you have indeed found the 1 in a million in that respect. I still won't trade mine however. She at least doesn't complain about the car stuff...

    Yeah...
    Brian Bear got honey. :)

    Have you considered a two-piece drive shaft with a center carrier bearing for the Desoto?

    Kim (my wife) is very supportive, and sometimes enthusiastic about the cars, especially if they're capable of towing our Spartan travel trailer. She's usually right about some of my questionable choices.
    Re: the DeSoto driveshaft, the steel one is too long and gets a harmonic vibration at 65, so it's a big problem. The driveline shop said they can make one in a larger diameter aluminum tube that'll negate having to make a center crossmember to support a carrier bearing. That would end up making changes to the exhaust, and host of other stuff I really don't want to get into.

    The impalas roof color may look very good on the wagon. I agree that the contrast is a bit stark at present. As for the 4:11's, fun around town. Not so much on the highway. 3:55s are my fave.

    Brian, some Dodge Dakotas use an aluminum driveshaft. Have no idea if they would be of use to you, just thought I would throw it out there. Retirement is great as long as you stay busy, Carp!

    That's the plan. Aluminum tube, seems like they said it'll be 4 1/2" diameter.

    Hey, Flyin';
    Not sure what you'll end up with, but a gm envoy-type series uses a fairly long alum 'shaft, also kinda large dia.
    If you need a "dirty-white", Vanilla Shake might work, since it's less intense.
    Admittedly, I prefer brighter/sharper/more-intense colors, but that may be due to the eyesight slowly going away(?).
