I can't think of anything WORSE than a line of dumbasses constantly asking me.."Isn't that Rudys old truck???"....I'd rather walk.

I'd raise it up about 2", and paint it a dark, dark blue with black wheels. I'd love to see it finished too.. it's had it's fame as a beater, I think the next level should be clean and polished, so that the shape and workmanship has a chance to shine through...

I would buy it in a heartbeat no matter who owned it last! I have had wet dreams of that truck ever since I first saw it. That truck and Rocky's 33 is the reason I'm building mine.

Oh and I can't leave Butt R. outa that group too!

Really though if you can't tell, when I think of a rod I see a picture of that truck.

I looked at the Rudy truck as a really original work of art.
Rolling sculpture of the original calibre of an original Roth, but different obviously.
(I'm not saying it's like Roth's cars, I'm just saying it was an original style, like Roth's cars were an original style at the time)

As a work of art it was a stand out, but then something went dreadfully wrong.
The new "executor" of the art mutilated the work.
It's as if someone bought the Mona Lisa and painted over the homely woman's face with a continuation of the land/cityscape that is in the background.
Sure it would still be the canvas the Mona Lisa was painted on and it would still be the same background, but "Mona Lisa" would be gone, destroyed.
That's what happened when the doors got painted over on the truck.
If the guy was so henpecked that he wasn't "allowed" to have this famous truck as built, then he should have put it up for sale then and there, instead of mutilating it.
I think the only way to make that truck worth mor than the parts it's made of would be if someone could get Rudy to restore it to the way it was.
    If that's possible.

I love that truck. But whomever buys it is screwed. It will forever be Rudy's truck in our little world and no amount of new owner updates will ever overcome that. I would bet that is at least a factor in why he is selling it.

If I'm not mistaken, the man's name is Steve Moody.
And since he paid for it;it's his,not yours.
He can do whatever he wants with it.
I'd rather see it painted, and driven,
than to have it hidden in some private collection like too many cool cars and bikes.

If it will make you feel better, build a Clone and paint Hookers on the doors.

Man, you're right. Kurt McCormick, Barry Mazza and the rest of those dorks are real jackasses for laying out the cash to buy and restore all those cars that were made famous by OTHER people.

Sure, none of us would buy that truck because we'd rather try to build our OWN piece of future hot rodding history. But I'm also happy to see that there are some people willing to lay down the scratch to keep a current piece of history in circulation so that 50 years down the road it's not turning up in a scrap yard like so many cars did.

Remember the Moonglow? Wouldn't it be cool if some Elvis impersonator found that before the crusher did?

By the way, I'd like to see those build pics of this truck, too.

never seen it up close... mark of a true craftsman is how effortless he/she can make something look... there is pure skill embedded in that HOT ROD.

Sorry DrJ, but I didn't feel the need for people to reread the entire thing.

Maybe I should have elaborated more. It just struck me funny that an original truck cut up into a hot rod, should be "restored" back to it's original condition as a hot rod 2 years prior. People always bitch about the restorers, cars being too nice to cut up, etc, etc. I think the whole traditional movement is based on restoration if you really think about it. Recreating what was done years ago.

It's not worth getting bent about. No disrespect intended.

My brother-in-law was bidding on that truck the first time it cycled through e-bay, and the current owner out-bid him on it. He was so geeked about that heap, and I was like, "Yeah, whatever!".

Then, I got the chance to see the truck in person at Kulurepimp's shin-dig down in Indy, and managed to talk briefly to the current owner.

Seeing that rig in person made all the difference...it's a kick-ass rod no matter WHO owns it...and the guy driving it came off as a good guy. I was impressed with the overall look and some of the little details, and didn't even miss the chicks on the doors!

I'd lay a coat of color on that thing and drive the wheels off of it.

    Rudy's truck??

Yeah, I can relate...I sold my Pontiac twice and to this day, locals still call it "my" car...even though last time I saw it, the car had been painted a different color, ran different wheels, and had a whole different drivetrain. I liked what the guy had done with it...and he was about three owners past my last tour of duty with the car!

"Rudy's" truck was a killer rod, and still is. Seeing it on your monitor doesn't do it justice...I had to see it up close and personal before I was impressed...but damn, it ROCKS!

    I don't care man...
if I had the opportunity to buy, let's say,
    the Hirohata Merc clone...
I'd be ALL over it...!! (if I could afford it that is..!!)

Not exactly the same type of comparison, but you get what I'm sayin'..??
Rudy's old truck was pretty 'neat'...saw it at Paso in person...
Lots of cool details on it, good 'craftsmanship' it seemed,
didn't look too 'thrown together' to me, like things were finished correctly...
but the whole 'fad' that seemed to follow kinda spoiled it for me...

    just my 3 cents...

I was not there when Rudy built that vehicle, Wish I was.
I would love to see the build pics of it. It was made from different junk yard pieces fit together in a very artistic crafted manor. I hope someday I too could build a piece of hot rod history. The coolest thing about it, in my eyes is the fact that it was fashioned with these parts and not from aftermarket crap. It doesn't take 29,000 to build a Mona Lisa....just paint, brush, canvass, and a vision. The reason this vehicle is demanding this price is because it's cutting edge and began the popularity of our type of rods.

Gotta disagree about a major point....these types of hot rods and lifestyle(retro) were popular in Europe before it hit the U.S.

You know what I am tired of all this crap.. the guy is in his 609's, way cool.. His mother did not tell him shit, he dumped a shit load of money in the truck to make it "right" and road worthy. He drives the thing every fricken were, and at his age thats fucking cool... So fuck off with all the arm chair comments, and fucking drive your rods...

  28. Who buys famous cars???????????? Well....me, I bought the Rocky 33, owned it for a bit an sold it to a pal that needed worse than I. Nobody in my little burg had a clue that the Famous Wayne Gosson had built this truck!!!Anywhooooo...

Everyone here is getting a little wound up over nothing. The cars and trucks that mena shit to us on this board are nothing more than blips on the radar to most car folk. They dont care.....they dont know..........that this was "RUDYS truck" It is a truck that looks like something they saw in some mag...was it Popular Hotrodding? I dunno Clem? This board and the floks that surround it do influence things more than most realize, but we are not the epicenter when it comes to the average "Lemmingrodder"tm

lesseeee, since the truck Rudy's built a bitchin little t bucket that Mike Zenor now owns, built a kick ass 29 roadster on 32 rails, done work on friend's cars, mine included, has started work on a really neat 32 roadster, oh yeah, did I mention he also has a full time job and 2 young sons to spend time with? Kulturepimp is right Steve Moody is a helluva guy, NOBODY told him to paint the doors on the truck NOBODY! He just felt that they weren't "him" he has driven the wheels off that little truck, and now it's time for him to build another car ( this is the first car he's ever bought, ever, in like 40 years of being a gearhead )
So good luck to him, and as I stated before, GO FUCK YOURSELF!
