It's the super cool Shoebox Ford built by the Drag-N-Shop which started this post.

Rechrome the bumpers, and change the wheels, and it could be a real winner.

It belongs to my friend Brent from the Drag Lynx here in Sacramento.

If my memory serves me correctly, here's the lineup: stock '54 Merc trim, shortened and moved back, extended hood scoop with '53 Merc spears, tunneled head-lights with stock rings, nosed and decked, shaved door handles, and Merc caps with added bullets. It has cut coils in the front, 3" blocks with a leaf removed in the rear. Brent has a bunch of other mods planned for this car before the paint gets laid down, but I won't spoil those :)

Attached are some close-up shots of the chop...I can't remember the exact dimensions, but I can find out if anyone's interested. I wish I had better pics of the work around the B and C pillars as well as the garnish moldings, the detail work is amazing. The backlite is shoebox surrounded by superb metal finishing performed by Paul Garland.

Thanks much Bryan ! It's a verv classy car, can't wait to see it finished. I'm especially glad Brent also supports L.A.B.That's what makes the Merc so appealing and gives that timeless look.

A very nice suprize at this years Sema show was Rick Dore's latest customs. A 1936 Ford roadster with invluences from European and US Coachbuilding, as well as the early Westergard style.

I feel its a bit to modernized in some erea's but if you can look past those and focus on the extended and reshaped hood, extended fenders – I love the look of the long front fenders – and removal of the stock running boards. You should really appreciate this custom.

Good job Rikster, those 'JC Whitney' hubcap looking wheels ruined that thing. Still though, It just doesn't do it for me, the '36 has become the new '50 Merc, it seems.

  25. Brownsmetal,

I have been following this thread and there are some mighty fine customs here.
Here are a few pics I took of a Merc in 2001. I don't know anything about who owns it and I don't think I ever saw it again but it did leave an impression.
