  1. Well, that was quite the battle, but here it is! Mr. Kindle isn't letting me upload pictures (or e-mail them to myself!). Had to come home and use the laptop.

  3. Thank's, Mad Mikey! I'm rather fond of them too! This one's been on there for over a decade, need to pull it off soon and send it up to Don Hampton for a rebuild. It's starting to get some play in it.

As i recall, as the one of the Bruce Crower stories goes, during some discussions with his buddies, his flying buddies, they either said it couldn't be done, or challenged him, that a SBC in an airplane was impossible, as it would need an oiling system that could function upside down...
Well i never saw it, but was said , he did it....

I use a simple rule of thumb for looking at Hp per CI with forced induction engines. At 15psi boost, you are double atmospheric pressure, so you are effectively doubling the displacement. At 30 psi, you are effectively tripling it, and so on. So when some guy starts telling me how much power per ci his turbo Buick or intercooled honda is making compared to a naturally aspirated motor, I usually mention that. ;)

No wonder rear engined dragsters were moving fireballs imagine if one of those rubber lines split.

Those lines were never really a problem, the fittings are crimped on and they were/are pretty good. The fires were usually a result of the blower coming apart, and the fuel pump keeps going as long as the engine is turning, pumping fuel into the inferno two feet in front of the drivers face.

  19. Blowers being BLOWN off the intake was a all to common . They did not strap them down in the old days. A exhaust rocker breaks, heavy load of nitro, and KAPOW! Blower goes into the sky.

Interesting, that's adapted to a 'banger and it is from a '37-'38 Graham-Paige.

Looks to me that it is a home brewed, and very well done front drive setup like the Potvin drives and manifolds from the '50's. Originally Potvin manifolds did not have port injectors, the nozzles were only at the two or four port Hilborn for example. Later on guys realized they not only needed fuel at the blower but port nozzles enhanced power so Potvin added cast, but not machined, bosses to their manifolds.
The Competition Coupe pictured has a lot of trick machine work, the blower drive, manifold, pump drive off the blower with it's 2-1 gear drive and more. There are two distribution blocks, one for the Hilborn and one at the manifold. The manifold distribution block has lines to that brass fuel manifold in the center and it appears that the injector nozzles can't be seen.

Appears to be a fuel log with some kind of boost referenced metering. This thing has nozzles all over the place. Nice work. like to see it in person.

I just love these long cross rams. Not so much in a open engine bay. But it is still pretty BAD A$$.
