Looks like easy access parts were polished but hard to reach spots weren't LOL. :)

  17. I am guessing the top one is a 348, but anyway, it reminds me of the time when my buddy left the light on the street, and the throttle stuck open. He was able to power shift it into second, but in the time it took him to reach for the key to turn it off, I thought he was going to blow it up. It was one of the scariest rides I have experienced while I wasn't driving.

    I love tinkering with carbs.

Built the induction system in my avatar back in '78. This was for the 400 Pontiac engine I built up and swapped into my '56 Chevy. '66 GTO iron tri-power intake modified to accept Holley carbs. High perf. replacement carbs sold over the counter by MOPAR dealers to replace OEM 440 6-Pack setup. Hand built air cleaner with '70 240Z Datsun filter element.

Modified Offy intake for small block Chevy. Lots of welding to build up port rooves to match ported Victor Jr. heads and widen carb mounting flanges for either Weber or Holley carbs.

Something I am working on. This intake is for the 292 inline 6 I will swap into my '57 Chevy.

What I am doing here is modifying a sidedraught intake to accept Weber DCNF downdraught carbs. This is actually the outboard half of what will be a 2-piece intake. I have an identical unmodified sidedraught intake that will form the inboard half of this intake. These halves will bolt together using what was once the sidedraught DCOE carb mounting flanges.

Reason for mods is that sidedraught carbs interfere with steering column and master cylinder in '57 engine compartment. But I 'just' have room to fit the modified 2-piece intake with downdraught carbs.

After welding, my friend Nick shotpeened the intake to give it an 'as cast' look and make it harder to see that it has been welded. Then he did a skim cut on gasket mating surfaces to true them of warpage from heat of welding and bored down through throttle bores to open them up into port runners below carb mounting flanges.

A bonus is that effective runner length is increased 50% . And I can rebuild and rejet some Weber 42 DCNF carbs I have here from an old Maserati and put 3 of them to good use......

    Best regards,

    Harry
