Speaking of induction, anyone know why they might have pulled the scoops?

Here's one I found interesting, both cars running some type of injector that seems to be just a scoop mounted to the blower (I'm assuming the nozzles are on the other side) but I cant find any info on who made them

Conveniently enough, there was a large shot of one of them in the newest HRM, plus it’s a nice picture to look at

Those are Enderle Bug Catchers. I’m on my cell phone right now but it appears that the Altered is running the very early Bug, because it appears to have a raised lip around the outside of the front opening along with the three fins on top. First the raised lip was eliminated and then later the fins.
The Hoover Special rail probably has the very early one with the rib too, hidden by the Tony Nancy cover.
There were nozzle bars in the hat, but also port injectors on the dragster, look close you can see them.
BTW, the Dennison/Arlasky& Knox car became a very early Funny car when it was re-bodied with a fiberglass Mustang by Ron Pelligrini. He later founded Fiber-Glass Ltd. Ron earlier had campaigned Ivo’s side by side twin, and drove the 4 engine car under contract. He also bought Ivo’s in-line twin Buick car that Tom had barely ever driven. It was built and soon after the NHRA lifted the fuel ban, Tommy sold it and went to a 392 on fuel.

Thanks a lot! I have seen Bug Catchers before (I think most of us have), but for some reason my brain was telling me that them being mounted that close on the blower was strange, great history on the A/FR and early fiber-glass

    Hey MM,

Nice photo of Donnie Hampton. A West Coast innovator in drag racing from the early days at So Cal dragstrips. We just happen to be at Lions, Riverside and Bakersfield during the same time period as his string of race cars and races. It was one of our favorite race cars. He was pretty versatile driving FEDs and Comp Coupes against all racers.

The Miss Fire front mount GMC supercharger FED was outstanding in build quality. Over the years, they went up against many different racecars.

    Jnaki

It seemed like every time we were at the So Cal drags, (racing the 58 Impala, or later, our 671/SBC 40 Willys,) the Kenny Lindley, "Miss Fire" FED or the Eldon Dye Comp Coupe was there with Don Hampton doing the amazing tuning/driving.

Driving the Eldon Dye Comp Coupe VS the top record holder, Chet Herbert Special FED.

“During the 1950’s, Hampton gained recognition as not only a driver, in Kenny Lindley’s beautiful “Miss Fire” dragster, which he drove at the ’59 NHRA Nationals in Detroit, but also as a mechanical engineer, manufacturing blowers “Hampton Blowers” in 1957. Partnering with Eldon Dye and Kenny Lindley, throughout the 50’s brought Hampton opportunities to drive award winning vehicles, as well as be on the front lines of mechanical innovation for the early years of drag racing.”

The latest edition of the Kenny Lindley /Don Hampton “Miss Fire” FED: The action was filmed at Lions in 1959. The sound was from the Detroit Nationals later, in 1959.
