pretty cool. According to the timer along the bottom of the vid that was a 10 second (+/-) run. Wish I had something that quick.

This shot's from March of 1961. It's an image of a Hemi-headed small-block Chevy on Isky's dyno for a bit of tuning. This engine made 638 hp with a 301ci small-block, a 6-71 blower, an Isky cam, a Vertex mag, and a two-port Hilborn injector on alcohol.

WOW! Gotta love that.

 

Leo Lyons was the guy that fronted the money for and developed the Chevy small block hemi heads. He was a plumber but apparently he had some deep pockets in the early ‘60’s to pull that off. I think his intent was to have a hemi chamber for nitro SBC’s.
I have read that there was a 6-2 log style manifold cast up for the heads too, but have never seen a photo of one.

 

The guy in the photo is Isky's dyno man, Bones Balough.

 

Bone’s is still hangin’ with Isky, they were among the guests of honor signing autographs at the Meltdown Drags. I ran into another old timer too- Gabby Bleeker a ‘50’s-‘60’s Fuel Altered standout. Gabby won Indy in 1968.
