So Jesse Miller came out and handled the passenger side door today... And the floor got done as well... This body is getting really close. Ohhh... And remember that dash? It's mocked up now...
you have just been infected with Creeping Elegance...there is no known cure. I had it once and now I'm homeless...beware
Metal work is just about done... FINALLY... And now it's off to shit that is a lot more fun to photograph. Today, Keith has been installing the '39 dash. It fits beautifully and the wrap around the cowl top is a nice touch for sure: Pretty cool, right? And then... Keith stuck the gauges in. It was one of those moments when you realize why you like old cars so much. This dash has me excited.
I just love this dash. I got cold feet just before Keith cut the original cowl top for clearance of the gauges and glove box. I had to stop and talk about whether we should cut the only part of the car that was in reasonably good original shape. Well now I'm certain we made the right choice. This dash is really the focal point of the interior. So damn cool!
John Mearns celebrated his birthday this past Friday by flying out to Austin so that he could be test fitted to his new coupe. Keith, the prince of appropriateness, made sure to get John’s car as close as possible to final mock-up before his arrival and, of course, still found time to gather some balloons, streamers, and a cake for the big occasion. Oh, and Cato rolled out as well to discuss interior options. All we really lacked to complete a full-tilt birthday party was a clown and maybe some roller skates. Maybe next year…
