NIKE Motel No Tell

Hello,

Back in 2008-2009, there was a pro surf contest at the Trestles surf location. It had been a staple of being a great contest and drew hundreds of people to the long sandy beach that ran parallel to the coastal Amtrak Train. But, this time, NIKE was getting into the surf scene with big sponsorships and support for the pro tour. They rented a small freeway side motel in South San Clemente to convert it to the no name motel for the duration of the week long contest and pre/post shenanigans. It was nicknamed the “Motel No Tell.”

The red 1959 El Camino was prominent in the displays and a daily center piece. Artist Roy Gonzalez had some artwork and was a featured artist in residence.

"The “motel-no tell” is a remodeled dive lodging just off of the 1-5 freeway north entrance in south San Clemente. NIKE transformed the old 50s motel into a nice upgrade from its former self."

The Nike Motel hosted plenty of events on the grounds of the motel with art shows, live music and yoga sessions. The custom t-shirts were different for each event. There was a photo booth in one of the room’s shower for a different approach. Currently at $65.00 per night, it is not a bad place to stay.

The Hilton is is not, but a clean surf oriented motel for all travelers. The plus is that it is close to the San Clemente State Beach and park. Also, it is close to the entrance to the walk-in trail for the supreme surf at Trestles State Beach.

The real motel in real time, pandemic and all...right next door to the famous Sugar Shack Cafe.

One of the best breakfast/lunch places in all of South Orange County.

I dig '66 El Caminos as well, but the HAMB has a pre 1965 cut off, hence the lack of '66 El Caminos on this thread.

 

Probably one of a handful of customs that I actually like... If only it had the factory door handles..

 

My all time favorite el Caminos are the 69, 60 and 59...

The el Caminos all came with front suspension linkage, that was so far ahead for the times..

 

59 El Camino with the chopped top and the extended back glass looks like something the Jetson's
would drive. (sorry-fly)
