That's what Jim does - inspires kids, puts them on the right path and creates a new generation of gearheads/hotrodders. He is a great mentor - well done Jim.
The kids are onto another project right now. it is a 1942 chevy ambulance sitting on a 1978 chevy 3/4 ton 4wd ch***is. Up here in spokane offroading is huge and they are all having a great time with it. Also they pick the best names for cars. this one is called the redneck battle truck.
That is so cool, but how the **** can a school afford a project like that? My High School barely had an Art department because it couldn't afford pencils and paint and if you wanted canvas or quality drawing paper you had to but it! There were no auto, metal work or wood work shops! And this was a slightly above average school too!!
Actually, I live about 2 blocks from the school. The cl*** is taught at my shop, and I supply everything. The school pays me a wage and thats about it. I get free labor, and payed to work on my own cars. the kids get a chance to build something cool. The school gets a cl*** they usually cant afford. Its a win, win situation.
It was really easy. We used a set of rotors from a 1996 ford crown vick. They slide over the hub, and are held on by the lug nuts. Next we made a square plate that adapted a set of caliper brackets from speedway motors to the spndles. they use 1978 camaro calipers. It stops GREAT.
Nice looking car! It's great to know that some schools still even have an auto shop cl***. Really well done.
Well, I took out 3 of the kids today. We found an old road in the middle of knowwhere. Each of us did a p*** in it. Man, that 429 gets it hard. I got 2nd gear rubber, with a 3rd gear scratch, The kids each got a good burn out and took it up to 50 mph, with me in the p***enger seat of co****.
I have to agree... <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
excellent thought, but im really trying to hold the kids attention, and I need to be teaching them. A nice shiney paintjob isnt really what the kids of my cl*** want to learn, and spending the entire schoolyear wetsanding is not my idea of a worthy use of my cl*** time.
Jim- Nice work on the g***er. I am an auto shop teacher at Kennedy High in Bloomington, Minnesota. Are you related to a Dave Sibley that retired from Kennedy 5 years ago? We are working on a 35 Ford pickup and a 67 caprice. The kids just painted the interior satin black and the dash high gloss black. We are also replacing the box floor with oak strips. We are cutting the rabbits for the wear bars and pre-fitting everything before final welding and painting the box inside with a black Rhino coating. The Caprice is rusty and needs a trunk floor & braces as well as quarters$$$$ I own a 51 Willys wagon that is a g***er style with a small block Chevy, Turbo400, and chrome 55 Chevy rear axle. I also have a 74 Nova and 77 Monte. The Monte I have at school to repair the floor rust. I am full time auto now , but next year we will be going to a new schedule which will result in 1-2 teachers being cut. There is also a teachers social group on the HAMB you should be a part of. Good luck on keeping your program going. Bill
