Very nice detail work on the stainless and the metal work on the chop is awesome!
This Mercury is going to be a classic custom! It just keeps getting better looking with each modification!

    Hi Jeffsled
I love the way, you are picky, about the details
I am very very happy too
I will still try to find these Tires, if it is still possible to buy them

And still love that 100% relaxed Avatar you have

Thanks guys. Sorry I haven't posted for a while, just been concentrating on the car. So Im getting close to being done with the roof and just finishing up some of the small details. The stainless window trim is really close to being done. Here's some pictures of how I reshape the stainless and some pics of the car outside.

Before I heat and bend the stainless window channel I like to weld in a small strip of steel to the open channel. This helps to keep it from warping too much.

Then I make a pattern of the window shape and chalk it out on the table

Next I use some small blocks of steel to hold the stainless while im heating and bending it. It's a very basic jig but it works fine for me.

Next is heating and bending the stainless. It needs to be red hot and and I put pressure on it while heating it. You have to be careful because if you use too much pressure and heat, you can tweak your piece then it's really hard to fix.

It's good to keep checking the shape with you pattern.

When it looks good carefully I cut all the tack welds and clean up the piece. There will always be some warping so I use a chisel and hammer (on the inside of the piece) on a flat surface to straiten it out. Here is the finished piece.

  15. :) Im glad you appreciate me being picky and don't take it the wrong way.I catch a lot of shit from Jimmy about being the pickiest guy in the shop. Its all in good fun though.I think those tires will look great if you can find em.

Wow....Keven the new pics of the car out of the shop look incredible.Im seriously loving this Mercury.I have always said this is my favorite treatment to these early mercs. No offense to the Matranga cars.......this is just very pleasing to my eye and I really want one.

Awesome work Kevan. It's great to see this coming together.Nice to see one get chopped and then all the finishing touches like the trim work get finished too. Tim's going to be one happy fella when it's done.

Great tutorial- thanks for showing us!

How did you lower the car? Did you cut the frame and crossmemeber similar to the other project or just blocks? What about the front?

Hey Mike, no cutting the crossmember on this one. We just removed the spacer bracket that Mercury's have. It's a 2 1/4" spacer riveted up into the crossmember. Then we got a reversed eye spring from Eaton Spring in Detroit, and some 2" lowering shackles from Vern Tardel.

This is whats left of the spacer bracket after cutting it out.

    And some 2" lowering shackles.

Sorry for not posting much in the last few weeks. I've been doing some long hours trying to get the car ready for paint. All the little details seem to take forever but it was finally ready enough to go down to the paint shop today.

loaded up and ready to take down to Adam the painter. Looks a little funny without the quarter window stainless.

My merc is getting the boot and coming back home while Tims car gets ready for the full treatment!

Adam (aka Suge White) ready to get to work! By the pictures you would think the car just needs the roof repainted, but it has lots of little flaws and small dings, dents, and other issues so it will be getting the full repaint.

So we got a little over a month to get the car painted, glass installed, headliner redone, interior put back together, new tires mounted, chrome work done, polish all the stainless, lower the front of the car, etc, etc, etc.....
