  1. I fell in love with your coupe at the Nat's, Pringer's coupe was way too much for me.

Damn you guys have me reminiscing a bit.
Yblock, of course we don't mind . It is always good to see images of one's hot rods taken by others. As they take them from a slightly different perspective.
Your not really missing much, having never met me. I am just a regular guy doing the stuff I love.
Your are right in what you say about Tony. He is another story! In a good way of course! Boy has he owned some neat cars.
You're not alone Doc, I think a lot of people sought of liked my coupe when I first got it on the road. But I really can't take all the credit for it's build. Peter Nash was the one who did the most work initially on it. I merely bought a '32 5W window coupe that had all the hot rod character in the world and finshed it off.
Hey Jaws you'd be surprized how a couple of bumbling old hot rodders achieve what we do. But yeah another pair of hands would be handy at times. But I much prefer just Tony and myself working on our 3W. That way there are no outside distractions. In fact I much prefer to work on my cars by myself.
Any how I had best add some images to this post.
You know so much of our past as hot rodders we can date by stuff in the photos/images we have taken over the years.
Here are a few I can use as examples of the that.
The first and second were taken in my sister's driveway in Perth. I drove the coupe over to Perth in December '89 and I was away for 2 months. What a great trip and Hot Rod adventure that was. That is my niece Nikki in these shots, she is now 26 years old.

Here is a shot taken in Rita and Tony's driveway. That is their youngest daughter Kayla in the shot. Rita and Tony will have to put in the year of this one.

Oh man. Here I am thinking about my ckeckered hot rod past now. Whilst looking for the images for that last post, I came across this one.
Hey yblock, here is a shot from that same show as we were setting up the club's display.
Of course being in the same club as Graeme Blaby, I was very much influenced by his hot rods.
Also in the background of that shot is our race car. The Rea Wier Mumford #24 T roadster. But that's another story in it's self. But I thought I had best add a shot of the race car from way early in it's life as a hot rod/race car.

Thanks for the old pics, Geoff I remember seeing pics of your 5 win in magazines when I was first interested in this old stuff. A very cool jigger.

This was the event I attended with my then girlfriend, when touring down under from Bonnie Scotland, befriended you and your club, and you let my drive this awesome '32, and I think half the club's cars also. A great memory to this day.

As we approach Christmas, I guess it is time to wish everyone who views and submits to this thread a Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year.
The other evening I got my striping gear out to stripe some Christmas cards to be sent to friends and family. So while I was busy striping I put Gussy in the brush box to look on. He definitely looked the part with his Duece Of Spades beany on his head and his Essendon football jumper on. I know Rita and Tony will get a laugh out of me showing Gussy on here. But hey I reckon Spencer T and Jude will love seeing him on the computer.

So what's been happening in my garage.
Between being very busy at work I have managed to get a fair bit done on the scoop for the Austin A40 drag car that Gary is building.
I have taken a bunch of images, which I will post in the next few posts. I won't go into the minute detail I do with the Last Grasp stuff. However if anyone wants more detail, don't be afraid to ask!
The first images show the beginning of the adator that will attach to the carb for the actual scoop to mount to!

I made a hammer form to form a flange on the adaptor that mounts to the carb!
I was a bit slack in taking images of the marking out, folding and bead rolling that I did in the fabrication of this adaptor.

As seen in the next images ( ones that I had shown in a post a while back ), I made the scoop in card stock first. I do this to develop the shape, so I can form the scoop with the minimal amount of joints and therefore requiring the least amount of welding!

    [IMG][IMG]

Doing it this way the bending and forming process can be a bit more complex, but it is worth it in the end.
I did however have a couple of pieces that were made as individual parts that were welded onto the main body of the scoop later, that formed the total unit!

So having all the pieces tacked up and checking the fit on the car I did the welding. Then the finishing of the welds and final sanding of the whole scoop before buffing. The finish will be slightly 'brushed' with a relatively high shine from the final buffing.

Then it was onto final buffing. After a couple of hours it was really starting to pop.
All that remains is to do is the metal finishing, the final sanding and buffing of the adapter.

Thanks for the kind words guys.
    Tom we'll talk after Christmas.
Tub 1 it scares me to think that Tony and I may be thinking alike. I tend to think way outside the square at times.
I totally finshed the scoop for the Austin yesterday, so this afternoon I took it out to Gary's. I told him it was his Christmas present. He looked at it, shook his head and said it looks just like a bought one.
I must admit I am very pleased how it turned out. It looks really good fitted up on the small block in the Austin. With the tilt front down, it pokes out of the hood just the way I wanted it to.

Whodaky I reckon you and Tony both think out side the square that's what make you both successful hot rodders ,I know both myself and my old mate Doggy always think out side the square and we have been mucking about with these old cars over 35 years since we were apprentices I hope we never grow up or old ,when we get into our old fords we are 17 again ,im sure you understand merry Christmas tub1
