I am having problems with something on page 30. When I go on there something on the page is stopping Explorer from allowing me to do anyhing on that page. I have tried a few things here on the computer via windows, but no success. Hopefully when the page is full and it turns to the next ( page 31 ) then I will be able to continue from there. I am posting this from the quick reply message window on page 29. It won't even allow to post from the Go Advanced window from page 29.
I still have a number of posts to do about the rod run weekend.
Anyhow I will try and work around it.
I just want to try an image from here also.

Ah ha. More than one way to skin a cat ( computer in this case ). I guess the fact that the last page was nearly full helps.

PS I really like that last image.

This still isn't working totally right, but I think I can work around it for now.
For the rest of the morning we hung out in the garage, a few of the guys were cleaning their cars and some had gone to the beach to have a dip in the ocean.
Around 11 a.m. we headed in convoy out to Carol and Frank's new place. Tony was in the lead with Jeff Calleja riding shotgun in the roadster. I won't go into Tony's strange turn into Carol and Frank's street, lets just say it was not the way to do it.
For most of the guys it would be the first time they would see Frank's coupe in person. Most of them had only seen images of it here on this thread.

We were at Carol and Frank's about 30 minutes or so when Carol started bringing out food that she and Victoria had prepared. Lets just say no one went hungry.
I want to thank Carol, Frank, Victoria and Rachael for a very relaxing couple of hours at the new property.
It was a great setting for just going crazy taking images, so I did.
I will just bombard you all with the images I took that afternoon!

Here's Ethan ( Tom's oldest son ) with his art work on the cowl of Frank's coupe. See Tony when you are drawing with chalk you need to make it look like something. Nice work Ethan!!!

Leaving Carol and Frank's, most of the guys drove into Warnambool. I followed Tony back to Port Fairy. We did have a stop along the way to play once more with the timing on the flathead in the roadster.
Back at Rita and Tony's we were greeted by Don Hammond in his '34 3W. He had been waiting a while and was talking with Rita.

    [IMG][IMG]

Don came into the garage, where we all kicked back and as usual we just talked hot rods. Not long after, Mark Fry from Mount Gambier dropped around, he was driving a very nice '35 5W coupe. It is a car he had built for a customer. Judging by the quality of this coupe he does nice work!

A while later all the other guys arrived back from Warnambool. During the rest of the afternoon people were dropping by to see what was happening and to check out the projects in Tony's garage.

    [IMG][IMG]

Tony's cousin ( the guy with the dead T bucket ) came around with a number of his Renegade club members, a couple of them wanted to have a play with Tony's roadster to see if they could sought out the ignition problem.

A car that turned up mid afternoon was Peter Koning in his stunning '37 convertible. This is one beautiful car.

All the while the Renegade boys were playing with Tony's roadster. Late in the afternoon Peter arrived in his phaeton to add to the impressive line up out the front of Rita and Tony's house.

    [IMG][IMG]

    [IMG][IMG]

Around 5 p.m. the Renegade guys had got the roadster running a lot better, but the way it was still popping, they were of the view that it may have a sticking valve. But it did sound heaps better and a test drive did confirm it was running a lot stronger!

Saturday evening on this weekend has traditionally become a bit of a music/jam/singalong night ( there are some very talented musicians amongst this group of hoodlum hot rodders ), although it can be a bit impromptu at times.
This year after another wonderful meal prepared by Rita and a couple of other talented 'cooks' present, the evening's entertainment was just hanging out and chilling in Tony's amazing hot rod wonderland. There is just so much stuff in there that promotes discussion. Let alone many of us reliving old times, as well as us all talking about our lives and future projects in those lives. But we did have some very soothing live background music. Provided by Ben Calleja ( guitar ) and Mick Beljan ( drums ).
It was a pretty casual quiet time had by all. Fergie and his son William dropped by a couple of times during the evening. Very late in the evening Shane Winnen, Oatesy and a group of their friends dropped in looking for Fergie. A while later they were gone and the last of us retired to bed at around 2 a.m.

Sunday morning as usual I was up early, before everyone else. After a shower I had my walk along the beach. Arriving back at the house, a few people were up having breakfast and some were outside giving their cars a clean.
Later in the morning we would all head down for the show and shine.
When Tommy Flathead had finished cleaning his coupe, he wanted to give it a run. So I jumped in with him and we went for a quick cruise around town.

About 30 minutes after we returned ,we all headed off in our hot rod convoy once more. I had thrown the keys of my coupe to Jeff Calleja to drive down to the show and shine. When we pulled in, there were probably over 300 cars of all types; which made for a very impressive lineup.
Getting out of the coupe and walking toward Tony's roadster I bumped into Mitch ( fuzzybear here on the HAMB ). So for the next hour or so I checked out the cars with Mitch.

    [IMG][IMG]

Along the way a guy ran up to me a bit excited, it was Craig Issel. I had met Craig many years ago at the first Geelong street rod nationals. Where I striped his 'A' roadster. Well his excitment was to tell me that he had recently decided to take up striping. I was just as excited for him, as the world can never have to many stripers doing it with brush and paint. I also offered him some tips and advice.

Of course I ran into Spencer T so I picked him up to say Gday and then we took a selfy.

Even got to take a shot of Renee' with Mabel Rose.

After Mitch and I had done a full lap and seen most of the cars, I asked him if he would like to go for a cruise in the coupe. I didn't have to ask twice. I threw him the keys and I got him to drive around to Rita and Tony's. I showed him my '32 3W. He sat in it whilst I told him what my plans are for it. After a while we then headed back to the show and shine.

When we got back to the show and shine I got to catch up with a friend ( Trevor Ryan ).
After hanging out a while longer. A few of the guys that had been staying at Rita and Tony's were heading home from here, so a lot of goodbyes were exchanged ( I was staying another day ). Those of us that were left headed back to the house.

When I got back to the house after getting something to eat in town. Tony, Jeff, Mitch, Pat, Alan Chapman, Mick Dunn and his mate Doug were all there talking together. I had run into Mick and Doug at the show and shine. I had got my '32 roadster off Mick around '97 I think. A while later I talked with Alan, Mick and Doug. Alan and Mick were talking about the early years at the Riverside drags ( these guys are around 10 years older than I ).
Here's a shot of the first time I went to Port Fairy, it was also the rod run weekend. I really didn't know anyone that well. I just rocked up, although I wasn't so bold as to think I could just lob in and stay at Rita and Tony's. I had my tent set up at one of the local caravan parks. Anyhow the real point of this image. The roadster parked behind my coupe ( my coupe was yellow and red in those days ) was Mick Dunn's at that time. I can't remember what year this would have been. But a bit of interesting history just the same.

A while later Alan was looking at the quickchange that is going into the Last Grasp Special. There were a few crown wheels and pinions nearby. Alan asked me me about he various ratios that are available, we talked a bit about them along with Mitch. I think we all learnt a lot from each other during that conversation.
I then talked a while to Pat, he wanted to go and check out my 5W. After looking at it for a while I said do you want to go for a run in it. He did, so I threw him the keys and we went went for a run around town. On returning I said to Pat well I may as well have a drive of your convert ( Pat had bought this from Tony a number of years ago! ).

For dinner that even, those of us that were left went to a local hotel and had a counter meal. Carol, Frank, Victoria and Rachael joined us there. I am sure it was a lot more relaxing for Rita not to be cooking.
On returning to the house Tony and I checked out the HAMB as well as looking at some of the recent images Tony had saved. I think around mid night I went to bed.
For this post I will include just a number of random images from the weekend up to this point!

Once more I got up early and had my daily walk on the beach. Today my walk lasted a bit longer as I spent a bit of time pinstriping in the sand with a piece of cuttle fish. Sand is an interesting medium to work with. There is a lot more I could say about my ideas and techniques for doing this; but I won't go on about it!

As I had my camera with me that morning I decided to get a shot of a couple of houses on my way back from the beach.
The first shot is a house that the guy who did the bulk of the building on Rita and Tony's house all those years ago, worked a lot on. Racer was the guy's name. Rita and Tony have great memories of Racer and they all became good friends. Racer has passed on now, but every time I pass by this house I think of him, because all the great things Rita and Tony have told me about him. I also really like the unusual design of this house.

The next house is one that has been built over the course of the last 12 months or so. It has been interesting watching it evolve.

On my return to the house, Rita was now up, so we talked for while. It wasn't long before Tony came downstairs to have breakfast. Sitting at the table looking out the window we could see Tony's roadster and my coupe parked on the front lawn. Tony said to Rita to take some shots. I said don't worry about it, as I had taken quite a few earlier.
I think I will show all the shots as they offer differing perspectives of 2 very different hot rods, but they compliment each other so well.

These 2 hot rods have led very different hot rod lives and boy could they both tell some stories. Sitting here thinking about it. There is so much I could write about these 2 deuces. Probably enough to fill a book. But I won't go into their wonderful individual journeys. I think all of the above could be said about their present owners.

A while later Jeff Calleja and his family came in to say their goodbyes.
Tony and I then went out into the garage to sort out and pack away stuff from the weekend. By now it was almost time for lunch.

After lunch Tony wanted to take a rest as his back was giving him a bit of grief. So I said I will go out into the garage. As I wanted to get my 5W into the garage and take some shots of it with my 3W, as well as getting some with the Last Grasp Special 3W. Once again I took a whole bunch of shots, which I think are all quite neat and offer up differing perspectives of not only my coupes but of Tony's garage in general.

My plan was to leave at 4 p.m. I moved the coupe back into the driveway and put my gear into it. I had checked the oil and water and was ready to roll. This must have been around 2.30 p.m. I was then looking at my 3W, Tony and I had previously agreed that the signwriting needed to come off the doors. Well I spent the next 20 minutes wet rubbing on the right side door. It was 20 minutes well spent. I had almost finished the door when Tony walked around the corner and into the garage and said YESSSS!

So then Rita came out into the garage to see if I wanted a coffee before I hit the road. She didn't need to ask, as I aways enjoy a coffee with Rita and Tony.
So the next 15 minutes or so we talked a bit about the weekend. Then I said my goodbyes. Jumped in the coupe and headed home.
It was a very hot afternoon, but the temperature gauge was saying all the right things ( so glad I did the water pump).
I really enjoyed the drive home. It gave me the chance to reflect on what had been a great weekend. It has been a long time since I really enjoyed driving my hot rod like I did that afternoon.
As I have said in the past, it really is the simple things in life that make it so special.
Once again I want to thank Rita and Tony, for allowing us to share with them their wonderful home for what was really an incredible weekend.
To everyone that was there, we really have become very special friends.
    I won't go on.
I will just close with more random shots!!

Had to do another post, as a post will only accept attachment of 20 images.
I guess this whole series of posts has been image overload. But I believe one must take many shots to get those few really special shots

  30. Great description and images Geoff off a fantastic weekend, my opinion was the show was good but just hanging around with all you guys and in Tony & Rita's garage was just the standout for the weekend, I hope to catch up again sometime real soon and perhaps if okay with you may even get you to do some pin-striping on the model A roadster???

As well as share with you and Tony my plans for my next hot rod. 1940's era with enough seats for the wife and daughter. That will keep everyone happy!!!
