So Tony went back to Melbourne on the train yesterday afternoon. Rita was driving up from Port Fairy. Because on Sunday they would be attending a the naming ceremony for their latest grandchild, Otis.
I have mentioned how Tony's latest hot rod purchase has come about, so over the course of the next week or so I will post some of the 200 plus images I have taken this week.
The first images are of us picking the coupe up from where it has been stored for a number of years.
We did have to slot the motor and trans in before we loaded it all onto the trailer.

Outback you are absolutely spot on, that is the one and only original Jersey Suede that has been such an influence on me also.

Just got home from Melbourne about three hours ago we had a good time with the family today. Geoff thanks for looking after me for the last few days, and the help you gave me on the Nappa coupe. And I hope we can enjoy another adventure with this project together.

  6. awesome, that 'new' coupe sits beautiful, full hood and fenders looks excellent.

Like many, Lance's illustrations and cars have been an influence for decades, and look forward to seeing his new project when it's put into service, and if it's as low as Lance likes to go, then sits just right by me ;-)

    Now......that 3 window...batteries recharged?

    Cheers,

Tony it's always a pleasure having you here. Your not that hard to look after. Actually I don't do much, it's mostly Margaret; doing all the cooking and stuff. But we did have a good time. Seeing that '33 roadster in the old garage was the icing on the cake. But that is another story in itself.
Over the course of the 5 days Tony was here I took around 200 images of what we were doing. I won't be posting them all, only a random selection.
Basically what we did to the coupe, was fit the motor and trans for transport home to my garage. Whilst here we fitted the hood, grille and front fenders. We tried various wheels from my stash of wheels. We also set the stance, by playing with the ride hide at the front and making a temporary lowering block arrangement at the rear.
Anyhow, enough of the words; on with the images.

PS: I forgot to mention. Boy did the hoist make life easy. It was money very well spent!

  8. is that a '27 chev tank tucked under the rear?
Either rim/tyre combo looks neat, although I'm bias towards the alloy's, just such a timeless look that celebrates the 'less is more' deal.
Great to see action in the shed, especially embracing that hoist.

Hey Drewfus. I don't know that the batteries are/were flat, there is just to many other hot rod distractions here and at Tony's. I may be going down to Port Fairy this weekend. But there is another plan in the works and it doesn't include the Last Grasp Special. We will see what happens.
Yeah Tony's new coupe does look good with the hood and fenders. I think with the stance we have achieved, this hot rod 'works' without having the top chopped.

  10. I feel that unchopped, but with fenders and a real low stance it just says 'gentlemans hot rod', which, from my perspective, fits the criteria just perfect.
Again, great to see you guys embracing hot rodding, even if the 3W sits for a while, its great to see you guys actively pursuing your dreams and aspirations, whatever that may be.

    Cheers,

    Drewfus

It was good seeing Tony's car in the in the flesh Friday night at the fip choose bar and grill. The pictures do the car no justice at all. Great night hanging out with the il Gorillas even if my (BEATUP) old VW was a little out of place.

Drewfus, I am glad you like it, as this coupe really fits me and with suicide doors I can get in without hurting my back. I let my 5 window deuce go because my pain was to much. Sam and Renee are the caretakers of it now and its staying in the family. Geoff looking at the shots has got me excited, man that coupe looks cool. And Trish it was the best night I have had for a long time, spending it with really good friends, more il gorillas in the gang.

Yeah friday night was fun. Tish aka Brendon, I don't think your bug was out of place at all. I think it was as cool as anything in the driveway or in my garage that night.
Not much not to like about Tony's new 5 W.
Tony, Gussy has been searching all over for the Mongrul Mexican painter, but he is nowhere to be found. He is also still talking about ebay. He worries me that panda bear.

Drewfus, no that isn't a T fuel tank.
Tom, how did I know you would like this coupe so much. you just wait until you see it. It's pretty nice.
Yblock, those Fairlane full caps are one of my favorites. I had a spare set here, so I told Tony we needed to try them. He's hooked on them now also. I scored a set on Ebay US for him.

I really think Tony wanted the Roller, but he would never have lived it down.

Here's Gussy giving some painting tips to his Mongrul Mexican painter mate. I told you it gets mad here in the 'Fip Choose Bar and Il Gorilla Hangout' .

Geoff, Seeing more shots in your shed brings to me all the fun we had messing around on the Nappa coupe . I have called the coupe Nappa as this was what Nick was know as by his friends . I know Nick wants this 34 finished , and with help from Geoff and mates I hope it gets done .

  20. Hey Tony & Whodaky thanks for sharing your good times and pics from your week together, that Napa coupe looks and sits perfect. What motor is it going to run? ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1416125593.921289.jpg

For those of you who have read the last couple of pages of this thread, you will have seen that Tony bought another coupe; and that he and I spent a week recently working on it here in my garage.
Well this past weekend it was my 3 window's turn for a bit of work. For this job I would head down to Rita and Tony's.
You see. on my last trip to Port Fairy, Tony had suggested we give my 3W a quick makeover in the form of a quick color change. He didn't need to convince me, I was all for it. I even had the paint, which was the paint I used for the color change for my 5W nearly 14 years ago. Basically it is a chocolate brown color with a flattening base added.
I will post a couple of teaser shots and if there is any interest I will post some shots of what we did and achieved this past weekend!

Geoff, I for one am keen to see some pics!

I was flicking through some old copies of Newsleader the other day and saw some of your adds and maybe a photo or two, it was the time that this traditional rodding thing became a little more mainstreamish, or at very least gota bit more airplay out here....

Interlude over - back to normal programming:)

Thanks for the replies guys. I knew you would want to see more.
Outback, I wrote a bit of stuff for Adam and Darren, who together produced the Newsledder.
Hey Rob, we are just doing the same old stuff we have always done.
Yeah I think we would make reasonably good neighbours. Always something different going on.
Anyhow here are a few more shots. After we did the color change we played with wheels.
Still got to try more to arrive at a final combination.

  29. The new colour works well with the wires and blackwalls. Might work even better if they matched the firewall.

  30. Cool pics Geoff. Orange wires with whitewalls of course is my opinion. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1416387977.912616.jpg
