    I found a 5500 converter!
And got a super deal on a Craigs List Schneider roller camshaft for the 300 Ford six.

Now I need to build up the 'Glides. Then paint and wiring / plumbing. WooHoo.

I am back to working on my Logghe altered between other projects. Today I finished off the top of the motor plate. There will be an aluminium flywheel cover transition piece similar to the one Al Bergler made originally. But the engine has been moved forward several inches to tame down the wheelstanding tendencies. The original cover was a bit problematic in that the body attached to an upstanding flange at the rear of the piece, with three Dzus ****ons. Over time the cover cracked at the upturned flange at the two outer Dzus locations due to the constant drumming of this piece. My plan is to add a stiffener hoop under the aluminum panel, just ahead of the three existing body hold-down Dzus ****ons and attach it to the aluminum panel with three more Dzus ****ons. Also, Al's original piece has a 3/8 flange at the front of the panel that folds over the block plate. I milled an offset around the top edge of the block plate so this downturned flange will now be flush with the front surface of the block plate.

Incidentally, the motorbike project in the background of the first pic is a Whizzer-like moped based on a Felt beach cruiser frame that I will be using as a pit bike.

I have an old fabbed-up clutch-C6 that was said to have come out of one of Logghe's old Funny Cars, complete with a handmade reverse-lockout ratchet shifter, collecting dust ;)

MeanGene I am curious about the hand made shifter you mentioned as at one time I had a Clutch-flite in the car and one of the techie wizzard fabricators in the Ford Experimental Garage made up a ratched shifter for it. I sold it to somebody on the West Coast and wonder if it is the same piece. Will you post a pic please?

I subsequently switched over to a Poewrglide and I think that is the best choice for my car. I will be building a 1.82 low race trans (a friend of mine with a race trans shop showed me how to weld up the planetary shafts to make these notoriously weak ge****ts live under race conditions) and using 4.56 rear gears and 33" tall slicks. This will easily put the car in the high nines but I will be limiting my dial-ins to 10-flats to avoid the costly continual ch***is re-cert process.

Anyhow, thanks for the shifter pic.

Great post must be a real great feeling to ressururect an old friend and put her back on the asphalt. The memories alone are worth the effort......

This week I was able to do more work on the Logghe car. I fabbed new driver's ****pit side panels and a new top cover over the trans, all lenghtened to accommodate the new placement of the block plate. I want to use as much of the Al Bergler tin as possible but new pieces had to be made here. I used his floor panel and just added a piece to the front of it to fill the space. Also, I made up new engine bay side panels.

I made the side panels for several reasons:
    - I like how they look and
    - it gives me a bigger "canvas" to extend the paint job forward of the T body to the front of the car and
    - I plan to build a containment tray to contain the engine fluids in the event of a catastrophic engine failure. This will be basically a pan with PigMat absorbent material. Since these are a newer technological improvement I do not want it to show so the side panels will hide it.

The radiator-grill-shell-like fuel tank is original to the car.

    Good news and bad news:

I tore up my converter, flex plate, crank adapter and Powerglide in my avatar altered so I "borrowed" the converter and flexplate from the Logghe car to get me back out on the track in a timely manner.

    but

I also got the ch***is painted this week and plan to hold a build party a week from Tuesday with five of my closest hoodlum hot rod buddies to screw this mess back toghther, which I will do***ent with photos. Stay tuned...

I am shooting for a Nostalgia race on September 25th. I still have to re***emble the engine and build a Powerglide for it. The body will get a two-tone paint scheme in Hugger Orange (to differentiate it from my blue S/P car) so it will be tight. Especially if my Super Pro car continues to give me maintenance fits. Yesterday I filled the cooling system puke tank with water so time to change head gaskets.

Chuck Kurzawa and I worked for two different shops together. He died maybe a year or so ago. Al Bergler is still around. I recently crossed paths with him at the Billetproof show in Ypsilanti.

T-Man was right ... rebuild it the way you first raced it ... You have a historical race car for sure. good build or rather rebuild.

I spoke with Al sometime ago. He was kind enough to supply me with an "Al Bergler Race Car Bodies" medallion to replace the original that was lost on track.

I also spoke with John Logghe who is now the caretaker for the beautiful Logghe Stamping FED. He said records of LSC race car builds no longer exist and the only person who could have possibly confirmed if mine was the last altered built would have been Chuck. That's OK, because I still have the original bill of sale, along with their brochure, price sheet and catalog.

I plan to upgrade the size of the rear tires a few sizes :).

The dummy engine was decked and head, intake and headers installed. Steering was aligned. Fuel system lines, water hoses and throttle linkage all need to be built from scratch.

Great looking car and I love the inline.

  24. i'm glad to see that it will be raced again, that's what it was built for and they are changed from the time of conception to when they are retired.

    Thank you marshall and Six-Shooter.

jeff/21, I did some soul searching as to whether I would put it back to as originally built or continue to race it again, with upgrades. I decided I did not want to give up driving it and since I am the singular owner of this car I decided to add to its provenance by opening a new chapter of compe***ion in it, marking the fifth decade that it will be in compe***ion. That is more exciting to me than owning a display vehicle. I'm not ready to retire it. The next caretaker can do that.

To make the intake I first made up a head flange plate with short stub flanges - about two inches long - to affix different header designs. Then I calculated intake runner lengths and volumes. Then I made up hardwood hammerform dies - a L.H. and a R.H. Then I calculated manifold plenum volume and played around with the plenum shape to fit the carbs on. The photo below is the best I have. It shows it mounted on a crossflow head, not stock, with an aluminum adapter plate to enable it to be mounted on either side of the engine.

I made the one for the Logghe car out of steel. Here's another one I did for the Advanced Ch***is car in aluminum:

The Logghe intake uses a brace of highly modified 350 Holleys. The other uses tricked out 500s.

The Last Logghe is back on the strip!!! It ran a best of 10.37/126 on its first outing - not far off my goal of 10-ohs. Our three car team of six-banger Fords had a ball this weekend.
