My dad co-owned a brand new 64 Fulie Corvette that they ran in the 64 race. Unfortunately, during the last practice session a road crew vehicle had a miscommunication with the starting line and headed down the course. They hit head on at brown bush, the only two car collision in race history. It only had 900 miles on it. Thom Jamison the other owner and driver survived but never raced again. First pic is my Pops.
That Monarch pass cafe photo brings back memories from August 1969 when I stopped there one morning on the way to Texas to get married. When I told the gal my car was having a bit of a hard time making it up the pass she said go out and look over the door and when I did the sign said 11,312 ft. One of those roads that looked great on the map but ate up a lot of road trip hours. Those photos from Pikes Peak and the dirt tracks are fun as coverage on Pikes Peak in Hot Rod Magazine was always one of the things I payed a lot of attention to along with Indy 500 coverage.
Thanks for posting the pics of your Dads vette. We believe that itt is THE same car my long time friend owns. The car now resides in Houston, TX. I've checked with him and he may respond in awhile as he is not a member on here. Hi s description of his car to me some years ago-I bought a an wrecked FI vette that ran in the Pikes pike Hill Climb. Pretty cool to hook up the history if it is the same one. I wouldn't think there would be many that fit that profile. Can't wait to find out more. Here is how the car is today. Sorry Ryan, Apologies for getting off topic. I can start a new post if necessary.
Great to hear from you, I saw an article on the Vette I think in Hagerty's monthly magazine a few years back but could not locate it again. The HAMB brings all good car stories and people together! I am still in touch with the son of the driver of the Vette, it would be cool to put them in touch with one another. Maybe it could be a HAMB thread.
