Bob Fall owned one of three ad agencies specializing in speed equipment manufacturers and was also the west coast rep for Chicago Decal Company. In the late fifties, early sixties, manufacturers bought one style of decal that was packaged with the product and another style that was sold through magazine ads or included with catalogs. If you saw a certain Crower decal on a car, chances were good that that car was running a Crower cam. Bob also did the Car Craft All Star Team decals and they were kept in a locked file drawer and every one was accounted for before that were shipped to the awards dinner.
Hey Ryan, I used to have nightmares about logos because I designed them back in the 80's and 90's. Mostly lettering with geometrics. I would like to meet the designers that did the old speed shop logos. Too many designs now days have that computer generated look instead of the artistic hand drawn feel like back then Mikey www.MikeysPinstriping.com "I've done bad things to good logos"
Gotta love those speed shop decals. A couple of years ago I needed to find the B&M Hydrostick logo so I could make a decal out of it for a model I was building. I found a bunch of those logos, scaled them down and made a decal sheet out of them. HERE Sure was a LOT of work to get two decals. LOL What started it
This has turned into one of the best threads I have seen in a long time. It is really cool to see what people bring out of the woodwork.
What are the legal requirements to modify and use one of these old designs? Our school is the CCDHS Cowboys so I thought this one with the horse might be a cool one for our school shop.....
Have the school art department create a logo instead of changing an existing logo somebody else created.
Some of these decals are pretty boss.I wanna get some of these and cover the rest of my tool box with some vintage stuff instaerd of all the new fangled ones i have.I can see already i am gonna have to get to ordering some from Muttley.
I love old logos. I have a bunch of old decals. I thought the bench at the NHRA museum is a good way to display all those old decals. Here's one on a windshield I saw. I gotta get one of these!!
crappy pics but here are some shots of my old swap meet display boards. Still have hundreds of original & repro decals here.
Don't even remember who gave me this decal but I've had it for several years and it seemed like it was old when I got it. What looks like gray on the shield and helmet is actually the "chrome" mylar that the decal was printed on, it just doesn't show up that way on the scan. I imagine that somebody paid a little premium to have them printed that way.
