Well, got her in my garage, if you can even call it that. Had a heluva time getting it off the trailer because the front tire was shredded. The l6 is full of oil so im going to go get a battery and see if it will turn over. Water pump is pretty rusty though so i dont have high hopes. I took a few pics of it once it was in the garage, me and 3 other guys had a hard time getting it in like i said, so once we made progress there was no time for pics. Dont try to turn it with the starter. Thats how you break things. Use a socket and long breaker bar and turn by hand. If you can get access to a borescope pull the plugs and peek inside first

I like to take about an ounce or 2 of Kroil and put down each spark plug hole and let it sit for a couple of hours before I turn it.
then put plugs in and give it a shot.

So, i've run into my first problem. It's my understanding that tri fives are negative ground, which means the single battery cable goes on the positive, the cable running to the starter and to the core support goes to the negative? I'll attatch some pics of what i'm seeing. Thanks[IMG][IMG]

And i put oil in each cylinder through the plug holes. I couldnt turn it at all by hand so hopefully the oil helps

Hot dog! You finally did it! Starter cable to +pos , ground cable to neg - like normal.
I was gonna try and root for ya whatever you bought but I secretly liked this one the best especially for the money;)
So heres your long awaited big CONGRATS! I like it, looks pretty solid, especially the trunk area.

...I would put a little marvel mystery oil in the cylinders.

    Congratulations.
You are now a Tri 5 dork! Ha ha
Those cables are crap. Ground the battery to the block, and frame. There's other body grounds, but those are the big ones.

Not sure what your question is. The cable from the starter goes positive. The cable from ground goes negative. You are going to want to replace those cables eventually but they should turn over the engine. You may have to play with them a little to get a good contact. What are you doing for fuel delivery???

That looks like a heater hose port. You are going to want to remove it and plug it or you are going to have coolant everywhere.

Gumout is your friend when it comes to cleaning all the crap out of the carb.

Alright i'm taking a bit of a break, i leave for school tomrorow so i'm a bit busy. Took the carb off and the intake is full of rusty gas. Can't seem to get the gas cap off which sucks because according to the gas gauge, it's completely full... great. Full tank of 25 yr old gas

I looked closely at the heater and i dont think its anything heater related. There are no dangling hoses anywhere either. I wont be able to work on it for about a week anyway, so i have time for you guys to enlighten me

Congrats on your purchase. Yes, that is a heater hose connection.

By the way.....Have you looked into getting a shop manual? This would be a "Factory" Chevrolet shop manual, NOT a Chilton's or Motors manual.

The factory manuals are well illustrated. Plus they are very simple and easy to read, unlike new car shop manuals. They are available in reprints and are relatively cheap. This would be one of the best investments that you can make in your 57. It will basically tell you how to work on every part of your car, from wiring, to suspension, to removing / installing trim, or glass. Basically everything on a 57 Chevy is covered in the factory Chevrolet shop manual.

A "Factory" assembly manual would be a great help, too.

Torkwrench is 100 % correct. It's the "Bible". Many of the tech pix I've put up are takeoffs from the shop manuals. Mine is worn and has greasy fingerprints all over it. Useful and great reading.

Just be safe, a fire extinguisher might not be a bad investment especially with the carb issue, also making it a roller to be able to roll outside would be good too.......

I'll give you a few bucks for one of your bowling pins to help fund your project since you have multiples! Glad you finally have something to work on. Looks like a pretty solid start!
