Thought I'd share what I'd been working on. Trying to keep it as 40's style as possible using and reusing as many original parts as possible. I started by pulling some measurements of the body and length of the motor. The body is a 26-27 T Roadster minus trunk. The motor is a 21 stud v8 flatty out of a 37. I knew I wanted to run the rear spring in front of the rear end with a floating T gas tank.

My buddy bent up some frame rails from my measurements and it all went from there. I also drew up the rear kick ups in solidworks and he lasered them for me. Thanks Dave.

You need to keep everyone in the loop on this one. There are a lot of modifieds either started or in the planning stages on this board and shared information is good for all involved. Pictures and info on the progress please.

I honestly don't know but he's pointing his rod at that girl and he's coming at her pretty fast!

Thanks for all the comments. I'll try to post up some more detailed info and maybe take my pictures with a real camera and not a cell phone.

Great mock up stance. What are your plans for the front spring setup?[IMG]

The front spring is on it...unfortunately i shortened the main leaf too much so i have to stretch it as far as it will go to get it on and i can't put the other leafs in. i need a new front spring. I think stock 32 will fit with a few leafs out.

Yep, thought so, a 28/29 like Neal said? How's it line up with the cowl? Are you going to need to modify it or shorten it at all?

I stole your pic and started a thread for T's with A grills, hope you don't mind. Consider it flattery! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=511700

Yea, it's a 28/9 A shell, he has a '32 shell as well he may try out. I personally like the A shell on it more than the deuce. We're moving all of our stuff to a new garage tonight, so he may have a few new pictures from there.

Yep sorry its an A. One of those moments where my hands were doing something different than what my mind was doing.

It fits perfectly no cutting. But I'll probably have to have a shortened radiator.

Yeah, honestly I had just looked at yours the day before I did this. This was actually cut out of a 32 frame about 2 years ago and I saw it sitting in the corner and I thought "Perfect!"

Love the stance, and I REALLY like that detail in the back of the frame, where it wraps around and has a "top plate" with a big round-head rivet-looking fastener on it. That's a kick-ass detail.
The wheel base is spot-on, too.

The one thing I wouldn't consider safe is mounting the leaf spring perch thru the split bones.
Look at the metal thickness of the cross members where the springs mount... they're thick like that for a reason: they're holding up the entire weight of the car.

What's the wall thickness of those bones? Then you gotta factor in the leverage applied with the front axle/wheels out ahead of it supporting the weight, and the flatty behind it.

Thought I'd share some information on how I got my measurements and how I thought it out.

I started with wanting the very front of the frame to be 20" so it would tuck behind a 32 grill shell. Then I took a measurement of my flatty with the fan on and the length of the body figuring the bellhousing would be right at the firewall to keep the shifter at the right spot inside the cab. (I don't remember my measurements for this but it gave me a starting length.)

The length of the frame rail is app. 83" and the firewall sits 34" back from the front of the frame. I then measured the width of the 2 rear body mount holes that would be under the seat (35 1/2"). I wanted those holes to be in the center of the frame rail.
Just so happens since I started with a 20" wide front cross member and run the frame rails back to 35 1/2" in the center and with body sitting where I wanted the frame rails enter the body perfectly at the firewall.
