I sleeved the bones in that area. Not sure of the material thickness but it was pretty damn thick tubing. Should be fine, lots of people do this. It's sleeved all the way through the bones and welded on both sides.

how do you mount the radiator on a set up like that? i like how the frame is behind the shell.

seems you would have to make mounts that go from the radiator back to the crossmember?

I am ending up with about 17.5 inches wide at the radiator on my modified, a little wider would not have been bad. I am going to narrow a 28/29 shell

I am curious on how you plan to mount the radiator and shell on yours

Really looks good. The only way I would use a deuce shell on it, is if you are gonna do a full hood.

  7. Nice lookin build, any updates

  8. Great looking little car.

I like the jack stand gas tank mounts especially. ;)

Looks killer!! I know you didn't ask but my vote is for a T radiator / grille shell. I gotta stop by and see these things in person!

Yeah the radiator will sort of float. I will build tabs off the front of the frame to mount it to.

Thanks for noticing...it spent some time in a warehouse after I built it and I haven't gotten around to sanding it down again.

Thanks Will, I think I'm stickin with the A grille tho. I'm close to starting the flatty up for the first time. Hoping everything goes smooth.

    UPDATE:
I got the factory aluminum heads back from the machine shop. Had 'em milled down a bit. I have to repair my intake manifold, the bolts ripped out at one time. I'll prolly fill 'em back up with the TIG and retap.
Cleaned up the dizzy and set the points according to Van Pelt's web site. Not too hard, everything inside looked good.
I've also been cutting a lot out of the body. A lot of the subframe was rotted and I needed to lower the seat pan. I also need a cage system up under the cowl to mount my steering to. Stay tuned, I have a plan for that...

More has come apart on the body than has gone together. But I hear her take a sigh of relief every time some crusty piece gets cut off.

Hopefully the body starts going back together tomorrow! It looks MUCH better now that it's all DA'd.

For anyone wondering where there aren't any braces in the body, it was hit at one point so reassembly will be realigning many of the panels to fit right. Don't worry, this one will be getting a nice black lacquer job on it.

Alright got some stuff done on the T. Got the frame all cleaned up (needed a lot more than I thought.) Mounted all the shocks. Running Houdaille (I think that is correct?) shocks in the rear and friction shocks up front. I'm still waiting for a few parts to be lasered out for the front shocks but they are pretty much done.
Bought a new firewall. The old one was hit at some time and twisted the whole front of the car. A new firewall should do the trick.

New firewall and radiator came in the other day so steering will be getting done real soon and hopefully start putting some panels back on that body...looks like shit right now.

No not much room to work with. Working on the clutch, pedals, and steering hoop now. I think I've come up with a way to maximize space.

I'm average height (5'10") and if I don't sit with my back all the way against the back of the body the pedals would be sticking out of the firewall.

I'm also setting the seat all the way down almost even with the floor. Otherwise you sit so damn high in those things people driving behind you can see what brand of jeans you've got on.
