Looks cool. Maybe it'll give MercMan1951 some incentive to post some progress pix... hint hint [IMG]

  4. I even found a piece of art I almost forgot about. It's by some cat named McPhail. (I wonder if he ever made a name for himself?)

Nice! I'm checking out the cherry sheet metal by those rockers. Looks like a Fatman subframe? Sits just right.

  8. Mike, about those cherry panels, the only rust in the entire car is right under the accelerator pedal, right about where you rest your heel. I've looked at it and I really think it's just rubbed thin. [IMG]

  10. I was sitting her thinking about that car. Man, that car is like my brother. It's been through everything. I've cruised it. I've lost many a street race in it. It's what got my lovely wife to like me. I remember the first time I picked her up in it. She walked out the door and said "What in the world is THAT THING!!! I told her if she didn't like it, she didn't have to ride in it, and I'd go home! She loved it! Four years later, we drove it away from our wedding. She is insisting that I have it running so I can drive our son home from the hospital in it. I've driven it through an amusement park, across the Mississippi river. I've killed a bird with it. I've passed out drunk in it. This car has been the most fun, and the biggest pain in the ass, I've ever owned. I'll never sell it, trade it, or get rid of it. If I can't drive it, no one will. It will never be chopped. Why? Because I like the giant window look. What am I saying with this rambling statement? I hope everybody enjoys their cars as much as I do. I hope they are as big a part of your life as mine. I was raised around cars. I'll die around cars!! I don't understand people that have a bad day when their "team" looses a playoff! They don't understand me when it takes move that 3-4 turns of the starter to get my car started! But, hey at least I built it!! Any way, I'll go back to my padded cell now. END TRANSMISSION

JK, nice Merc and great to hear the respect you have for it. My old duece I consider to be my best friend. Man the things we have done, the places we've been. Could write a book. Don't use anywhere near as much as I should these days and when I do I think damn I should use this old coupe more. And yes you when I'm feeling down or had a bad day or week. Get in her take her out for a blast up the highway and instantly the rest of the world can go to hell and I am at piece with the world once more. Just me and my Duece.

I can relate, bro. My 57 has been in my life almost twenty years.Great times, bad times. I've yelled at it like a person when it won't start ( that's it mf!I'm selling you!I'm tired of this shit!) I don't take it out that much, but I just can't sell it nontheless. Regarding your Merc, I love it, it's just right.Woodsman spare that merc. Luv'em unchopped.

Hey fag, I am on swings now and the trailer is empty.
I have nothing to do all day til 2:45. Tell Warpigg we can go load the Chebby if it's outside where we can get to it.

I'm with you. 49-51 Mercs look real fine without a chop. Different strokes...

My dad had a '51 merc and we had planned to do the custom thing and chopping it,etc...he has since sold the merc..but as years had passed..I dont think mercs need the chop..just lowered and it looks just right imo. that looks like a very solid merc you have there..good luck with it.
