What a great, unique Hot Rod! Love the sweep on those rear fenders; reminds me of the wheel openings on the Stude Avanti. The Sprite windscreen looks right at home on the car.

Sorry, can't supply any info, but thought maybe a little Photoshop tweaking would make those great photos look less like faded memories...

  13. I saw a top-less 3W body on Cragslist a couple of years ago, somewhere in Ohio. The doors had been welded and filled shut. It was painted yellow. I remember the asking price being around $3k, and the ad ran for a long time. Maybe the body migrated west at one time from NJ.

There was also one on eBay a few months ago in Florida. That was a total project. The frame was no where close to the one of the original build

X2. This is such a cool deuce even with it being a coupster. I would love to see this car resurface in your hands or at least someone's hands who appreciates its history. Part of me is hoping that those aren't the only pictures you have of it.. Which would mean you're holding out on us.. Which is frowned upon.. :)

Those are so awesome. Is that your dad and mom in the picture or one of your dad's ex-girlfriends?

Very cool thread for the hamb, IMO, especially with the tons of pics that most people never took or saved,

... the trophys,.. the very cool old model car, ...the pretty lady, and handsome guy with a cool house....and... the coool old rod with the seldom seen 348/trips...

Is this what they mean when they say "sucks to be him" ? :)

  21. Flat Power, I know exactly what happened to the car. Friend of mine had this car for decades. He also had another one that was a drag car, rusted out bottom. In the early '90's, he brought both the bodies to my shop. I took both bodies and made one beautiful 3-window with fenders. Car came out so nice, I painted it black.

There was a ton of work to do on both cars. Trunk area in your dad's car had been reworked and cut out, rear fenders were welded on, and doors were sagging really bad. It is the same car.

    Whoaaaa,
That is incredible, is it possible that partial remains of this body still exist? Or do you remember what became of the left-overs?

:( That sucks.. At least we know what became of it. Perhaps a clone?

(Yes.. I'm actually suggesting cutting the roof off a 3W)

I'm not a gambling person, but there are so many reasons to think that it can't be the same car. Location is one big thing, as well as the fact that many 32's 3w and 5w lost their roofs back then.

I just can't see the car getting out to Ca back in the day. A rod would likely have slightly more value out here in the east, versus someone wanting to bring a "cut up" one back to Ca? The only way I could see that happening in the later 60s, is maybe a US Army/etc serviceman, being out here during basic training, or stationed out here? But, you would think they could have had better pickings on the west coast? ..and would he have driven it across country? ...it's possible..

3w's have never really been rare as far as ones that were channeled or cut up, at least not around here. I bought and resold a channeled unchopped 3w body w/doors and firewall back around 1980 for $200. I bought it from a major speed shop owner, so that's all it was worth on the market then.

Welded fenders on any 32 are not rare, either, and yes, it would have had a lot of cutting in the trunk, like what was said.

    I LOVE it!
We're all a bit bummed out that someone might have welded a roof back ON a coupester!!!
Can there be hope for us after all!?!? :D:D

The common thinking on coupesters, and other less than common modifications, is that it just can't work/isn't acceptable.
    But thats NOW thinking.

THEN thinking was simply "I want a Roadster and that damn roof is in the way"!!!
Well THIS thread proves that; If you FINISH the job to be nice and well proportioned...then guess what it is?

A nice, well proportioned HOT ROD! Period.

People look at these pics and drool.
I know I DO!!! That little Deuce is AWESOME.

What makes old school so damn cool...is that back then there wasn't a "box" to think outside of.
WE created that...and in many ways now suffer for it.

  29. Go for it!!

I really dig the pic with your Dad with the helmet and trophies.
You never know, maybe it is still out there and you can find it. I can't imagine anything much cooler!
    Good luck.
