great idea on the rear wishbone mount. I was trying to figure out a way to do something like that since I used a set of fronts on my rear.. I was over thinking it, yours looks great. also like the center fork you build

I don't know about the whine yet. I haven't driven it out of my back yard yet. I hope it's loud. It might drown out the exhaust and wind noise.

It's not the coppers that bother me Mark. It's the self appointed Street Rod police that I'm more concerned with.

The rearend looks great. I love the torque arm/wishbone set-up. One of my favorites. It's hard to see fenders on it though....

I'm just trying to recall all the little (and big) changes I've made.

The quickchange with 31 spline axles
New mount for torque arm
New drive shaft
Stronger rear wishbone made from '48 front wishbone
New master cylinder
New Horn lever / ****on
Sealed and greasable steering box
8 deg caster (instead of 14 deg)
Extra leaf in rear spring
Moon discs
More appropriate colour and style seat belts
Re-routed exhaust
Repaired leaking radiator
All at once carb linkage, removed progressive
New Flywheel
New starter pinion
.....still coming
I am going to try some Excelsior tyres as per the Rolling Bones cars.
Thinking about a tonneau cover.
What do you guys think about a short pick up bed as per the Fidgeter / Anderson RPU? I'd like to be able to carry a bag, toolbox, swag...anything really.

The fenders are a necessary evil I'm afraid. The law says we have to have them. The cops aren't too harsh on it from my experience before I had club plates but now I have the plates I am concerned about stories I've heard about other rodders lagging in cars that are not exactly to the letter of the law.

A small question, when you set the rear with a fixed radius arm set up do you set a pinion angle on the diff or run it in a straight line with the tail shaft? Was thinking of a similar set up to yours with 36 bones and a torque arm for behind a Y block, Just not sure on the correct alignment requirements? sorry to hijack just wondering

We've been told that we're not doing our duty if we don't & given all these phone no's to dob in epa & littering offenders, suspect terrorists, illegal immigrants, 'su****ious activities' etc etc it's all gone nuts!@! rant over!

The pinion is set at ride height the same as the engine. In my case the engine is 3 degrees down in the rear, so the diff is 3 degrees up. With the banjo in it the drive shaft sat at a fairly extreme upward angle because the pinion is on the axle centreline. Now the drive shaft is almost level. But none of that is relevant to pinion angle.

Today is Boxing Day so the family have headed down to my sister in law's place. I had to go back to work. But tonight, no family at home and nice sunshine...great opportunity for a blat in a roadster. I needed a road test anyhow. So I headed out

There's a town about 10 - 15 south of me along a good bit of 2 lane road so I headed that way. It was like driving a different car. I went from 4.11 gears to 2.70s. I nearly forgot to select 4th once I got out on the open road. I used to be doing 2800 rpm at 60 mph. I worked out now I should be doing 1800 at 60. I was following another car and couldn't believe how slow it was going. I looked at the tacho..1800....60 mph..the speed limit. So I p***ed him.

Oh yeah that diff does make some noise.

Stopped to check everything was still on the car and snap a couple of pics

I must have damaged the temp sender during the pull down so I had no temp gauge...******.

Once I was in the next town it was only a short drive to the freeway so why not. I stopped to fill up because I had no idea how much fuel I had and it was at least 9 months old anyway. Hit the road again, got to my turn off and figured why not keep going north to the next town. I turned off the freeway and headed back south. About 20 minutes home and it was starting to get dark and the roos are out. Another nice gentle cruise at 60ish and home again. Not bad...about an hour all up and all seemed to go very well. The steering was wierd. Going from 14 deg to 8 deg caster. It was nowhwere near as stable feeling on the freeway but at least I could turn the wheel to get out the driveway.

So I'm back on the road for (most of) summer.

I think it's inevitable to have bugs to work out. I always intended to do the QC anyway so no big deal. Definitely get in touch when you start thinking seriously about the quick change....I have some opinions...and I've also done a bit of homework.

Of course it is only alleged there are self appointed street rod police. I have no first hand experience. I'm sure they're not my mates either. (If they exist)

Good point. In the end, if there was a fender exemption those fenders would be off in a minute, but I actually don't mind them too much. Finishing work at 8 am on the 31st. See you shortly after that.
