Yes, Maytag as in washing machines. They also built farm machinery in the early years, and during WWII they built tracks for tanks, among other war related hardware. The cars were built in Iowa, where Maytag was headquartered.

This is an awesome thread! I love the brass era stuff probably due to growing up attending Hershey with my Dad.

It thrills me to know that there is somebody out there that has accumulated all these parts and cars and is saving them for posterity. I hope that if he passes that whoever inherits them realizes they must be saved and not made in to Toyotas. Thanks for posting.

Great story. The gent sounds like a shrewd business man too. Finding out what you might have a need for and then showing you something you didn't think existed.

Every once in a while the planets line up. Good karma.

Serendipity. Great word. Ironically I heard the word used just the other day when I was watching this ice hockey clip about a heckling fan

that camper is a 65 delray sky lounge,,the pride of the fleet back then..slept 6 had three seats up top..we went every weekend to some where as kids. when you turned it felt like it would roll...on our first trip we went to fla ,,parked behind a closed mall because of 100 mph plus winds,,,in the morning the only thing left of the mall was that wall

It is interesting that you mention George. After I left this place, and got my cell phone service back, he is the second person I called (had to call my bride first) and told him what I found. George is THE Mason/Maytag guru, he keeps a registry and researches all the history on them that he can find. I gave him the serial # off the frame, and it was not on his list. But he has listed a surviving car from Montana that is just 4 numbers off. He figures they both got shipped there on the same train.

Here is a pic of my car in the foreground and Georges car in the background.

Its a Chrysler. It exemplifies what I love about Mopars of the 30's and 40's. They look tastefully chopped and customized when they are bone stock.

Wow, lucky you survived that ordeal. I love the looks of that sky lounge, it reminds me of a yacht. Even if I could find one, it wouldn't be too practical for my purpose.

Some might dispute whether that is proper use of the word, but that whole
    incident is HILARIOUS!

It cracks me up when people say you can find everything on the internet. Now go watch the movie. Serendipity starring John Cusack ?

  19. Nice find. You can't say that some people have all the luck, because like you stated, it takes legwork.
I had never heard of a Maytag car, very pretty.
