I agree... but I got the image from an email in 2010. And these are the only notes that came with it:

And when I google the car, I see Kustomrama has the same image... I'm ***uming he got the same email from Barris and listed it as a '56.

But *** end, profile, and front fenders look all of 53/54 to me...

I'm an idiot... the scan is transposed. It's a '53.

Looks can be deceiving as they do look similar...

    Hello,

On our block in the Westside of Long Beach, there were two Mercury Hardtop cars. One neighbor had a 1954 Mercury Hardtop. He bought it right after we moved into our house in 1953 summer. He bought it during the fall of 53 new car previews at the local dealers on the main drag of Long Beach, a few miles away toward our future high school.

My mom and her friends going on a day’s shopping/lunch outing in a cool 52 Chevy 4 door with skirts…

The house on the corner, who was the local piano teacher had a new 55 Mercury Hardtop. We got real used to that hardtop in our “secret short drives around the block” using her keys, while she was in the sound proof room, teaching one of our friends, piano keyboard moves. Those girls can be very persuasive to ask me to drive the Mercury…”just around the block…” It was my first “around the block” driving a full size car. After a month, the longest drive was all the way to the junior high school,(about 2 miles) that was separated from the new Lion’s Dragstrip by a railroad berm and a farmer’s field.

So, we got to know each Mercury hardtop sedan well. One we walked in front of it a few houses down the street towards the elementary school and the other, two houses away on the corner of our Westside street.
upload_2024-5-22_8-4-58.png NO way… Sometimes no one can know the origin of a 71 year old car photo taken in 1958, unless one was the photographer and is the one verifying the validity of the photo.

In my mind and recent search for a 54 Mercury Hardtop Sedan, it certainly does not fit the listed year, even on Kustomrama.com

I have every issue... And I've looked through every single one of them and can't find it. My understanding is this was the only picture published, so maybe I missed it....

Don’t know about the front, but the back is slick.

That's as cool as a cool thing!

  11. Seriously cool car with a happy driver. No air bags in those days, a single picture gives hope to some of us.
