does anyone have any good pictures of a 37 ford roadster...what are the dimentional differences between a roadster and a coupe...door length and rear deck area mainly...after seeing that "oh so nice"(note my sarcasm) top on that shoebox that someone posted i got to thinking about the 36 roadster on page 42 of HOP UP volume 3...and thinking about if i could make my 37 coupe into somehting similar to that...i need new doors so if the roadster doors would be longer i could just get 2 door sedan doors and cut and thin them rather then look for coupe or 4 door ones...anyways if anyone has any pictures of a "real" 37 roadster i would really like to see them thanks alot zach
well thanks to anyone who may have looked at this but i think i have found out what i wanted...its sure not a 37 roadster...they donlt have very nice lines like a 36 roadster..the windsheild is made into the cowl which is not al all what i want...doesn't let the lines of the car flow very well....guess i'll just do it my way and not worry what i real one looks like...its down the road anyways...gotta get the A done first..if anyone has any pics of a 37 done like i am thinking i would like to see that though thanks zach
You can get a B/W 8x10 of one from sacramento vitage ford 1-888-327-5988. There photos go for five bucks. They list two in there catalog. I saw a very nice org, 37 roadster sell(less motor & trans) for 50000 at a swap meet a few mounths ago.
The '37 roadster was just barely a roadster--it was a very rare (unpopular) model that was simply the regular convertible with the windows deleted and side curtains added. The only real change was a couple of strips of sheetmetal that covered the slots where the windows would have come through the door. They are very scarce, and visually nearly identical to the convertible. This was the last Ford roadster--I ***ume it was just a marketing ploy to have a model costing a few bucks less than the convertible. There wasn't any market there, apparently, and that was the end of the Ford roadster.
Bruce is right on the money with the 37 being the last - so-called - roadster from Ford USA. Other countries have different ways to do things and the following really doesn't conflict with Bruce's comment. Australia built a Ford roadster until 1940. Very similar to the 37's windshield etc. I've got a pic of one, but it's packed away. Perhaps some of the Oz contingent could post one for us.
George Poteet had the red Ridler winning realdeal 37 Roadster a few years back, since sold it, but I think they still use it in adds for collector car insurance, cant remember the company name, might have been hagerty. The full page add was in almost every rod magazine for at least through last year. A streetrod, but at least you could get a visual.
C9 is right about roadsters here in Australia, can only suggest looking on some of the Oz website like http://www.geocities.com/aushotrods/home http://www.hot-rod.com.au/ http://www.geocities.com/scoddsrods/photos.htm might find what your looking for there?
A mate of mine is building one here in Sydney. He's got a bit of a website with the build up and some pics. Pep's Garage If you've got dial up some of the pics might take a while to load. I've told him to resize them, but I don't think he has got around to it yet.
