The Nathan Strube Memorial Award to be handed out at the Goodguys West Coast Nats!

As many of you know, my son Nathan lost his life in a tragic long boarding accident on May 8th. The pain has been the most horrible thing for me, his mom, and our son Calvin... but what keeps us going are thoughts and prayers and things that honor his life.

The Goodguys Rod and Custom Association contacted me a few weeks ago and said they wanted to do a memorial award for Nate. We thought it was a great idea. Nate loved attending Goodguys shows in the nearby town of Pleasanton... he attended nearly every singl one with me since he was 3 months old. At 13 years old, Nathan was quite knowledgeable about hot rods, engines, fabricating and things mechanical.

I also want to take this time to thank all of you who sent e-mails, and responded with thoughts and prayers when the news of Nathan's death was posted on the HAMB. You all have helped me beyond the words I can find to say "thanks"...

So If you're under 25 years old and into building hot rods and customs... I hope to see you at the West Coast Nats in Pleasanton on the 24th, 25th and 26th. We will be scouting the Young Guys area Saturday morning in hopes of finding someone to give the award to. I believe the awards ceremony is Sunday... so plan on being there all weekend!

I am truly sorry for your loss, I cannot imagine how it feels.


I am glad to hear that he will be honored with the award you are giving out.

I am sure you will find a deserving young builder.

And lord knows you have helped many a young builder with your contributions here on the Hamb.

I will admit that the ride you gave me in the Roach Rod way back when, convinced me to build a hot rod, and I have never stopped.

this the 1st i've heard of this tragedy also. i was thinking of what i could say to you while i was reading the other responses. what i had in mind is pretty much exactly what redbeard said, except for the roach rod ride.

my little pea-brain just can't imagine the hurt that this has caused you.

prayers and good thoughts to you and your family and nate's friends.

obviously it's my loss that i never had the opportunity to meet nate.

b-t-w; while i never had the chance to see the roach rod in person, i was standing about 10 feet away when you fired up the bomb factory digger at the bend in the road. pretty cool stuff...

 

Hotrodprimer... yep, we get to pick the winner. Katie, Cal and I will be at the show... and Saturday, from 7am 'till noon, there will be kids in the Young Guys area. We are looking forward to meeting some young rodders... and hearing their stories!
