Admittedly, I've never been much for '58 to '59 Fords. The wagons have some charm in my mind, but the rest of the lineup just never really struck me. Of course, just about everything built in the period can reach out and grab your senses if customize...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
Damn I got to get that mag and check out the rest of the article. I love the rear treatment in the pic.
The parts they had to work with were mostly Bullet style or wild fins back then . I would love to see the complete pictures of that car . I really do like what was done that I can see from your pictures . I will agree with you on those Wild & Crazy looking fins and things that were done to those cars and the Dodge wagons back then . Even as wild as they were , I did love them ! I will say that they did a great job for the money they had to work with . If someone can find some more pictures of the 59 Ford , let us know where to find them ! RetroJim
thanks ryan for posting that, ive been trying to find a way to get rid of the ugly with my 59, cool looking car
58.59 Fords are one of the greatest starting points for a mild custom..... the examples are stellar.....
What cost $1000 in 1959 would cost $7307.30 in 2008. still not too bad considering.... http://www.westegg.com/inflation/
I would have to agree with Bad Rod, the car does look sectioned. Nice car otherwise. I alway enjoyed looking at those drawings in Car Craft from the different customizers back then.
if it were drawn to scale it would be. the drawing reminds me of the old Pontiac "wide track" advertising from back then. all the cars were drawn about 8" wider than they actually would be. never been a fan of the 59's. though if a clean original example popped up at a good price I wouldn't mind cruising it for a while.
Nifty ideas there. But the perspective distortions make the car look crooked. Gives me vertigo looking at it.
Just what I was thinkin', these tweaks would make for one bitchin '59 Ranchero! (Almost as cool as a factory '59 El Camino )
Thanx for giving 59 wagons an O.K. since that is my new daily!! The devil knew I have a 2-dr wagon fetish and made me buy it!! ~Sololobo~
The side view gives you a front end view. The other side view gives you a rear end view. The top view of the car as drawn would be a parallelogram, not a rectangle.
I felt the same when I was looking for my last project car until I came across a super clean (and all original) '59 Galaxie post sedan car with a 332 FE big block and factory air. Since I have a company truck it's my weekend driver and it's never left me stranded. I keep hoping parts fall off so I can mod it some more, but it's screwed together too damn well. From a styling point of view 1959 was like the peak of the cold war, both sides kept upping the ante past the point of good sense (and taste). Sadly, though, it was about the last year we saw complete body style changes from year to year. My '59 Galaxie may not be art, but I know what I like...
Exactly.... this was a style used by automotive illustrators that became predominate from around 57/58 until 65/66. Designers,Artists.etc comped up a lower, wider version of the real thing...... it was fantasy to give the buyer/viewer some interest in purchasing there product.Of course the photography was used in the mid to late 60's and then real bad photography with heavy retouching...and today.... real bad photoshop....
So right. As you'd know it's "artist's license", isn't it? On the photography end of things with GM being at times the worst offender, notice how cars are "laid out" for their promos. I caught this in my teen years how the pics never matched the cars wondering why the new Camaro down the block sat so high up. Later the tinted glass thing to keep your gaze on the outside styling. Most new car commercials both foreign and domestic still do the tinted gig.
still holding onto mine... needs a new carb. built like Ft Knox. started it the other day and it backfired once; LOUD: then ran fine. lady across the street looked like she was going to call the cops...
