Projects The next $200 - $500 expense to keep moving forward.

  1. If I was smart/responsible, new floor panels and something to help pay my buddy back for the favor of welding the floor in.
Or, I'd been talking about putting the Fentons on the 216, so if that's the case, then I'll need some tubing and bends to make the exhaust, and again, help out my friend who'd weld it up. This one would be a little bit better learning opportunity (to weld) for me than the floor, I imagine.
Or, I have a 235 ready to go in, but haven't done it yet since the 216 just keeps going along... To do the swap, I need to buy an early water pump to use with the relocating plate I already have, and a set of pushrods, and it should be all set. I bought as many things as I could think of that I'd need a few years ago, and have it all stockpiled in my little shop space.

I made sure to use the so-called "stimulus" money on cool stuff. Bought a killer 31" height floor jack made in Denmark, and a Flatomatic y-block to C4 adapter
I can usually afford to buy car stuff as needed, but I can't buy the time I need. And the clock is ticking..
I'll be a newbie at Bonneville in 2 weeks, after 60 years of wanting to go. Spent more on this trip already than I've spent on cars in recent years, but I'm counting that as money spent on car stuff.
I'll be the dork in the shitty rental car, riding a folding bike around, giggling like a little school girl.

I don't know about my next, but my last $2-$500 went for gas to go to the LA Roadsters Show.
PS I'm not complaining, it was worth it!

  6. Maybe a new air compressor...but doesn't it seem they all get mixed reviews ,even the pricey ones? Expect duds from HF ....but Ingersoll Rand even at 3x the price. I just want to spray a few cars and run tools. I have a 21 gal HF 2 hp, loud and I know that won't keep up....

  7. Already spent, just waiting on Jegs to ship and bill me for all the backordered stuff!!

I wish I could say that my next expenses are in the $200-$500 range. My new TCI trans is acting up and that's going to be a pricey repair. Then it's going to be off for body and paint correction. But with any luck, once those two hurdles are clear, the car is done. Like, done done.

In terms of smaller, (relatively) cheaper projects, I just dragged this monster home a couple weeks ago.

I scoped this giant 16" x 6' South Bend at an auction in Allentown, PA and was surprised when I won the auction. It has some backlash in it but that's to be expected and looks to be in good shape otherwise. What I was not expecting was to get tooling with it, including a full set of collets, taper chucks for the tail stock, a (2) 3 and 4 jaw chucks, 2 face plates, a center rest, several tool holders... and more. But it's an old 3 phase motor on it that will need to be wired to a VFD, and I'd like to outfit a DRO on it. Though to be honest, I don't know what scales I could get that could accommodate that big of a bed.

    Paint supplies!
My 49 is getting close to me having the body work done, weather its any good is yet to be seen. LOL! High build primmer is next (probably next week), then its the paint supplies. My buddy runs a body shop, he is going to spray both the paint and the primmer (in exchange for stuff I've already done for him) and he will get me the paint supplies at his cost (I'm paying for that stuff). He says to expect $500+ just for the primmer, the sealer, the paint (acrylic enamel), the hardener, and the thinner. I've been saving my nickels and dimes for a long time...
After that its a bed cover. Then I suppose I should see why the OD doesn't want to work.
