My friend Russell Guy aka "Duck" and I just completed an over 4000 mile road trip from East Tennessee to Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico. We made the trip in his deuce roadster sans top and heater fully aware of how unpredictable October weather can be. We chose his roadster over mine because his mildly modified SBC powered 5 speed car gets 21 miles per gallon on regular gas while mine only gets 15 mpg and requires premium fuel.
The day we left Knoxville it had not rained in over three weeks, so naturally it was raining that morning. Not to be detered we jammed two weeks worth of clothes and necessities into the deuces trunk, donned our "Frog Togs" and hit the road, but by mid day the rain had stopped and we had dry weather the rest of the entire trip although we did have some cold mornings and occasional cloudy skies but mostly sunny days and temperatures ranging from the low 30's to low 90's.
We dubbed this adventure "The Road Dog Roadster Tour" and it's only purpose was to entertain us as we toured the Big Five national parks of Utah, The Grand Canyon, and the back roads of the western states avoiding the Interstates and major highways whenever possible. One of the standout roads was Utah 12 were one section of the road bed sits on the very top of a mountain crest with steep drop offs on both sides with absolutely no shoulder, no guard rail or even a curb. I have to say that Utah has the most thrilling roads in the U.S. on any road there is something new and exiting around every bend and over every hill.
I have made many similar trips on motorcycles and in modern convertibles but doing it in a hot rod roadster is a totally different experience it raises the enjoyment level to new heights.
You will only see Duck's hot rod in the pictures I am posting because we did not see another hot rod or custom the entire trip. I am only posting a very few of the hundreds of pictures and videos I made, but you can see many more on my Instagram account @garywbrock. 1.jpg 2.jpg 20221014_105341.jpg 20221014_101001.jpg 20221016_081441.jpg 20221016_170243.jpg 20221017_143123.jpg 20221018_082225.jpg 20221018_111604.jpg 20221018_101655.jpg 20221018_135507.jpg IMG_20221015_120607620.jpg 20221018_144505.jpg 20221018_144740.jpg 20221019_131057.jpg 20221021_084522.jpg

Awesome! You have a great eye for pictures that capture the moment, thanks! I use a heated M/C jacket for those cold days. Ran a pigtail from the battery to the drivers side of the seat and plug her in and I'm toasty, just my $.02.

You gotta be tough to drive a roadster in October. Looks like you guys had a great time. Thanks for the pics.

Great photos and great trip. I have friends that have driven across the country in a roadster but I think I like a top on
my car. I am looking forward to a trip across the country next year as long as medical issues are solved. Thanks again for the great photos and congratulations on a great trip.

When I saw the reference to Frog Togs I knew there was motorcycle all weather riding in your past:) I am building a roadster and don't like cold so.....a heated jacket liner may well be on my list of apparel but you didn't mention it in your narrative.
Fifteen years ago a friend (Larry RIP) followed the Lewis and Clark Trail on motorcycles from Iowa to the Pacific Ocean, Larry described it as the "trip of a lifetime", I'd call your trip the same:)
