Noland, One question.... Have any pictures of the home made drip rails and how you made them? Mine were shot on my coupe; I have screw on aluminum ones now and I'd prefer steel.
I just bent them on a 5 foot brake, that works for 2 bends but for the third I had to vise grip it into the brake and beat it into shape,You could use a piece of I beam or truck frame that will also work. Then for the little arch on the end I bent it in the end of my engine crane without any cuts.then just plug weld them to the car from the inside.Be sure to shear or use the straight edge of sheet metal for your edge for best result.Ill have to take some upclose pictures for you. Just take your time their not that hard.mine arnt perfect but way better than rotted out ones.
my caddy had dual quads on it and that fucker screamed with everything else stock and a 5 thousand pound car, so i cant imagine that little a with that motor . hopefully i get to see this car around some day
Heres what I did over my Christmas Vacation,I have to go back to school tomorrow YEAH but heres a few pics of what I did I had to fill the roof,I thought about open roof but it just didnt feel "coupe" enough I you know what I mean,so I went and cut a roof of a old plymouth Duster dont worry the roof was the best part, and welded it on the coupe backward came out alright. I got inspired from the air scoop post so I decided to make my own They still need finished,I would like to get the chromed but little short on money in the budget,I dig them though, and free beside my time and some tin. I also ran brake lines but I figured a picture of that was unneeded. Thanks for everybodys support and yes I realize I cant spell alright.
you rule.. keep up the good work.. glad to see a high school kid with some talent and actually putting it to good use!..
this is deffiently going to be sweet when your done. Im lovin the scoops man. Its good to see another teenager like me building there own hot rod. I prolly met you at a show in the past if not I want to meet you man. What shows do you go to in the spring and summer Maybe we can meet up at one and hang out??? I cant wait to see this ride when its done since I to am building a caddy powered rod with hopefully 6x2s on it just short on cash right now. -Jon
"Noland Special" has a nice vintage racecar feel. After high school, a friend of mine had a chopped Buick powered highboy A -coupe. I always like the A's better than the '32, but I understand why the B models appealed to rodders. How about "The Chicken Coupe"?....."Coupe De Gras"?......"Coupe DeVille" (Caddy)......a '60s song title?
If song titles appeal to you, how about either "American Pie" (Don McClain)...... or "Reelin' and A' Rockin" (Chuck Berry?) Either title could have something special done with the "A", like gold leaf, or a brighter color?
I do like "Noland Special" but I think Im going to stick with the Noland coupe and I doubt youve seen me at any shows Because I dont go to many atleast till the coupe done,I go to alot of swapmeets though like Carlise and Hershey and a shit load of littler one threw out the year always looking for parts.
I'm impressed, looks like you have a great future in "The Art of the HotRod" , the quality of your work is amazing ! Keep it up
THANKS,you just dont notice the imperfections and the pictures are poor, Im going to sand blast and prime today because the school bus missed me today drove right past my stop with me standing there, no lights or anything, and plus its suppose to be 66 today WOW in january thats not to often in these parts.
I got a little update for the Noland Coupe just a couple picture of what I did,I sandblasted and primed the body, now its one whole color and that colors not rust,Im so happy,I think It will sit this way till about march when it starts to get warm so I can finish the bodywork. Till then I have to work on the frame so It can be sand blasted and I also have to build the engine. . .Still plenty to do.
Great stuff Noland! It's good to see young guy's with old iron! I'm looking for the same body to replace the Coupe I built in the 60's. Rich
wow you are alot further than me. but one day when i get my car done we gotta race!!! see what that caddy can do against a 409
I race against a 409 coupe Is it gonna have a cam or anything,I think a caddy engine is a little lighter than a big 409, Ill probably paint it a dark red metalflake thats what I was thinking Plans are always changing.Heres my latest acomplishments. I hand built the headlight bucket and chopped the grill 3 inches kind of a early to mid 60s look.I want to make a different grill insert though. Custom built trunk lid from a old ford truck hood and a neat-o liscense plate surround. Plus I only got three months to get this car finished for It to be part of my senior project.
lots of cam and skinny tires. im shootin for 400 hp when its all done. Your coupes lookin cool so far, is the motor all done? auto or stick? Matt Tindall
Thats about the ballpark that Im shooting for 400,401 somewhere in there. produces 345 stock so with a roller cam and 6 94s on top It will be close maybe not We will see,And I only wish my engine was built still waiting on my heads, Its gonna just be an automatic HOW BORING Thanks for all the complements!
ahhh if its the hyrddamatic you will have fun you can wind out second and third i alwats did with my 55 caddy or i hope ya dont have the jet a way behind it
