right, but I believe the cam profile is designed to mainly produce torque at low RPM to be able to swing the prop. the flat six in the porsche was designed from the beginning to produce the proper torque curve for a car. by the time the engine spins up to the the normal rpm range for a car, it's already past it's torque peak and it's dropping

That odd P-57 Chevy has now been repowered with a V12 Merlin out of a P-51 Mustang. The Merlin 2 stage blower really gives it a kick.

My Dad put the 250 V-8 engine, automatic transmission, and torque tube rear end out of a 57 Rambler station wagon, into his 51 Ford pickup. The fan blades sat just about an inch and a half behind the radiator, and the rear axle was perfectly centered in the rear fender openings! That was a smooth, quiet, and reasonably strong running old Ford. Very pleasant to drive.

How about a 1960 Chev Bel Air with a 1953 Ford 8BA Flathead and 3 speed box. He was a Ford guy that was sick of everyone putting a Chev in a Ford.

Back when I owned my liquor stores (yes, I know that explains a lot) I had a customer who drove an assembled pick-up. Dodge box/ Ford cab on an International chassis with an Olds V-8/transmission. He got most of the parts for free...Had about $15 into it for odds/ends.

A friend and I put a 3.4 Chevy v6 short block in place of the old 2.8 in his Fiero with 3400 series v6 heads, coil pack, and intake. Not as strange as some of the others posted but it was quick.

71 Vega with a 67 Toronado engine/trans/suspension mounted in the rear.Had to alter the wheelbase.Welded up the steering so it was locked dead center.Built in 1975.Free Vega and free Toro so it was just 2 17 year olds doing stupid stuff.Built it to burnouts and for that it worked fine. Was not a good street car.

I built a Baja Bug with a V4 English Ford industrial engine, mated to the VW trans. The nose of the bug was cut off just 12" in front of the windshield. The engines were imported to be used in small parking lot sweepers.

I remeber an old hot rod magazine (I think) car. An early Austin maybe 48-50 with 2 sbc in it. Looked pretty stock from the outside as i recall.

  20. I just looked at a sweet 36' Desoto 5w coupe mostly stock, the owner dropped in a Mercedes turbo power plant and Mercedes dash gauges!

the strangest i ever saw was a 66 nova with a 327 in the front and 2 more in the back seat. the rear was made up of 3 centersections.

the oddest i ever built was a 62 falcon with a fullrace flathead.

helped put a few al. 215 buick v8's in vagaes.
then there was the sbc. in rollesroice sedans for a limo company. built 3 of them.

  23. The late, great Bill Harrah, owner of the famous Harrah's Casino and automobile collection in Reno, Nevada had a 4-wheel-drive Jeep Grand Wagoneer with a Ferrari V-12 engine in it.

It was evidentally his daily driver. I saw it parked in the parking lot of the Harrah Auto Museum just a couple of weeks before Bill died. I spent quite a while looking it over. The attention to detail was fantastic! All the emblems, even the center of the horn ring were re-made to say "Jerrari". It had headlight wipers and washers. It had the gated shifter from the Ferrari on the center console.

I think it had six exhaust pipes, three on each side, coming out under the back bumper.
