My '57 Plymouth wagon has a Ford 289/C4 in it.

Doesn't rank with some of the stuff I've seen on this thread!

Used to be a car running around Ventura/Santa Barbara area 10-15 years ago.

Was a '61ish Ford Falcon Ranchero, Chopped top with a Flathead & Top Shift open drive.

    Pretty cool Lil Truck.

    .

A fella up the road 'restored' his first car all by himself, in his shop with a home brew rotesseire.
His 69 Mercury Cougar turned out fairly nice with the engine of choice being a Mercedes Benz deisel engine from some 80's behemouth.
    To each his own....

friend of mine had a 75 amc pacer with a pontiac 400. that thing was fast but ugly

  6. Buick 215 hung off the back of a wide body Porsche 911. Motor blew and the guy replaced it with an aluminum SBC sprint car engine. Used to see it all over the place back home.

One I'm working on that is slowly moving from paper to metal... 3) BMW V12s in a handbuilt 2 seat roadster. NV4500 6 speed and Dana 70 converted to IRS.

How about a '51 Nash engine and tranny into a '50 Dodge? I know a guy that had one back in 1964. Also a Lincoln 430 into a '60 Chevy 3/4 ton pick-up?

There was a Buick inline eight powered Jag sedan at Bonneville this year. I thought that was odd.

Can't find a picture of it, but I recall seeing something in the early 70's someone built that they called the "ForChevAmChrysWagon".
A car, literally made from parts made by the companies who comprise its name.
Oddest thing I've EVER seen...and it ran!
When I was in high school, one of the upper classmen got a "present" from his uncle, upon getting his drivers license.
A complete street legal, "for real" '25 track roadster that I think had an "souped up" Model A motor in it.
It was a light cream colour and super clean. Almost looked new.
That was a fun car to watch putt around the parking lot.
Another guy who was in the same class I was had a '57 Beetle that could do 11's in the 1/4 mile.
Funny to hear a bug engine lope. ;)
Another guy had a '57 Chevy that looked like it just came off the showroom floor.
    MAN that car was sweet.
...me? I had a '75 Vega hatchback. One of 3 identical looking cars in the lot.
We would always find each other trying to unlock the wrong car. :D

    Thanks for the reminder.
I just remembered a Hot Rod article where some guy "shoved" one of those engines into a '70 Opel GT.
More engine than car, it was a pure drag racer. I think it commonly pulled 9's in the quarter.
There was also a guy that was featured in Motor Trend Magazine around 1974 (anyone got this article?).
He had a big ol' Bugatti from the 30's that he shoehorned a Rolls-Royce V12 "Merlin" engine into.
I guess that thing was pretty fast and had a lot of torque. He could take off from a standing start in high gear without any protest from the engine.

  13. In the early 50's when the Nash Healy was introduced my dad, a Nash, Lincoln - Mercury dealer in Waltham, Mass., sold a brand new Healy to one of his best friends, a guy named Jimmy Jenks.
This gentleman had deep pockets so cost was no object.
He was dissatisfied with the power of the lame inline 6 in the Nash Healy so he had my dad order him a new "crate" 327" Nash Ambassador engine and a G.M. 4 speed Hydramatic tranny.
They plopped the 327 and Hydro into the Healy and everyone was happy.
He handed the Nash Inline over to dad which already had twin carbs and a nice header.
They then proceded to shoot out the firewall and floor in my dad's '48 MG TC and do the mother of all transplants on that collectible beauty.
They ended up with two pretty neat creatures when the were done.
Dad sold the MG late in the 50's when he developed polio and could no longer drive.
Mr. Jenks had the Healy 'till the early 80's when he passed away.
I heard that car from miles away for years..........what a set of pipes!

Here is the 1983 BMW 320i that I put a 500 Cadillac and 400 turbo into. We raced it in the Grassroots Motorsports magazine Challenge back in '03 and '04. Made the sheet metal 2-4 intake also. It was a load of fun to do!!! Kinda neat sitting in the back seat to drive too!:D Driveshaft was 10" long. Used the original style independant rear with an LSD and 3:64 gears. Fried the 10" slicks through 1st and 2nd:cool:

My dad had a 50 ford truck with a 440. My brother had a tr7 with a 302. My dad also put a v-12 jag in a toyota land cruiser.

  18. Was involved in the 1960s with a guy who was putting a 56 Jag six / 4 speed into a 59 anglia. It was sold before he finished it. Often wondered what happened to it. I did the short block for him.

The front 20 or so feet of a 50s commercial air liner mounted on a truck chassis with an Olds Toronado/Cad Eldorado FWD drivetrain and dual axles in the back. A freaky motorhome that used to be seen on the streets of houston.

Personally it would have to be '49 Ford w/'52 Buick straight eight.

When I was running SOLOII SCCA stuff there was a guy in Tulsa with an MG Midget/Austin Healy Sprite with a Mazda rotary in the front.

Flipper---in response to your questions the best et was 14.08 (couldn't have done .09 faster to be 13.99) and the speed was 96 mph. You build the "challenge" cars to compete in a triathalon; drag racing, autocrossing, and show. We tried to come up with something for all 3 worlds. I'll look for more pictures and post them.

OH YA!! What about that guy that had a very cool looking '57 Olds with a 429 Ford running around California or Washington 10 20 years ago?
A Ford guy that loved '57 Oldmobiles!!

Back in mid 80s in Bangkok, Thailand I saw a late 70s Cadillac Coupe DeVille with a Toyota 4 banger in it.
I have a 56 Packard in my 34 Ford, not too odd I guess.

  28. I had a '55 ford pickup in the early '70's with a 232 six and a three speed on the column. One day I spit a rod out of the old six, and drove the truck home with the generator hanging loose from the hole in the block.
I had the 200 in. six and automatic out of a '60's falcon at home, and thought "What the hell!?!" Took about four hours and maybe four feet of angle iron and I drove it to work the next monday! It just barely pulled it's own weight, but it got me to work for awhile! You could stand next to the engine in the engine bay.

  29. Mike Norris had a '56 bel air with a big Cadillac and hydro in it when we were in school.
Way more tourque than the 265!!!!

HMMM - thought mine were weird at the time - seem pretty normal now!

I combined a 56 Pontiac and a 61 Fiat 600 on a bet with my high school shop teacher... Removed the Poncho body, cut the frame at the rear kick-up, bolted the rear end to the frame. After gutting the Fiat body, I welded it to the frame, radiused the openings to fit the tires and cut down VW seats - mounted to the rearseat platform. some sheet metal and a beer keg finished it off. Crazy stupid squirelly - but won the bet!

Also had a 67 Econoline shorty window van with the runnign gear out od a CHP cruiser - 427, holly, C6, low numbers rear end, wing on top...... it WAS the 80s!
