I wouldn't mind finding one like that, change around a bit, more than likely, to a roadster like others have before.

You mean, you'd cut the roof of a coupe and butcher it into a coupster?

I'd use it as parts for a 3W that needs a rear window surround and some roof pieces. The lower section, I'd do what Jimmy White did to the 5W that was done for a customer while he used photos of my 34 roadster when we went to the Asphalt Invitational years back, Butchering is a pretty harsh word ;), I try to keep the tin how it was when I found it most of the time even frames for that matter. If it would require fixing from another body, then one would have to get repaired and the other made into another desirable car as well. (You'd have hated when Jake cut up a 5 window to use the front half on his "Screaming Yellow Zonker" 34 3W coupe that I think helped re-ignite this whole Chopped Top 32-34 Craze back 73). ;)

In the post above 34 5W pic, I just see potential for a fix of a couple of projects down the line. If you get a chance, check out Clark Bates project. It too was a 5W once that needed a bit of work, he couldn't find a decent Model 40 roadster body that was affordable so he started in on a very rough 34 5W and was repurposing the body for his version of a Jack Morgan=CLUTCHERS - SCTA styled roadster.

I tend to agree with you regarding some who just hack off a roof and call it a roadster as it has been/is done pretty often.

I wouldn't even call that five window I posted rough! 34 5 window is probly my fave. But I also live in a climate where windows and a roof are necessary.

I went back and re-read posts 282-284, and couldn't see where I put the word "rough" in there other than describing the one that Clark found??
Just posted what IMHO I'd do to fix another "Full Height 34 3W" that I have that is in need of some tin that is not produced since EMI or Steve's doesn't MFG the body any longer and that I'd actually "save" what others have been known to discard and get enjoyment out of what is resting in that post #280 or even the one posted in #281.

I live in So-Cal so perhaps we have a favorable climate as my roadster(s) actually sit out of the garage in the driveway year round where I can drive them as often as I can, while a 34 Woody and a 34 3W Coupe are in the garage, The other 34 that needs the tin is in a 1936 era built garage that is at the house I grew up with,(Trying to keep them safe).

We all dig all kinds of tin or else we would't be so passionate about saving it or building it for driving-Really, that's what it's all about.

  18. To my eye a full fendered 32 tudor looks too right to hammer. Here's mine in mock up, inspired by my buddy Wayne's black beauty..................though I'm going the other way on color. 32 sedan mock up 03.JPG Miller 32 02a.jpg

I have no idea how many were made in OZ, but I know their survival rate is way less that what it was here even through a war scrap drive and the whole jalopy racing deal in the 50's as they became literally destroyed even before they hit the track, that goes for 3W's too = very sad, but with that said I've yet to ever have cut one up or chop it up.

If I could repair one and make another out of the one pictured or the dented one in the image below it, then it would be adding a cool coupe and roadster to the rodding world and that actually would make driving cars out of them.

I find it strange that when a 4 dr sedan is changed into a 5W Coupe as seen here on the HAMB, not a negative word was said about it's change from a sedan to a coupe. I've seen it done with Tudors to 3W Coupes as well. That's Hot Rodding guys, not Restoration. I trust that we're all mostly Hot Rodders here?????

These cars are not for static display. Die Cast and Resin/Plastic 1/25 scale models are for that and most of us may have those as well just to look at.
I really like to drive em Thom, I think you know that when we met at the L.A. Roadster Show a few years back.

RCC&RC run participants like to drive em too. How many cars come from the US? Several that I know of personally in all shapes and condition they're made into Very Nice Hot Rods and some just were obtained by front sections, back sections, frames and incomplete cars.

If one has unlimited funds, then the sky is the limit. If not, then we gotta build from what is there and thats what the pioneers in this whole Hot Rod way of life did so many years ago when this "gold" was just a bunch of old tin to clock times in.
