Today I was fortunate to go barrow a ratty old original 36’ hood ornament.
So first thing tomorrow morning, switch it out .
And get to the root of this problem.

Does the '35 frame have the two sets of mounting holes, like the '36? If so, maybe you have the radiator mounted using the wrong set of holes. Should be the holes closest to the engine.

Friend let me use a old original 36’ hood ornament.
Hole spread on the original ornament is 1/4” longer than Drake’s.
Opposite direction I need to line up 5238BEEE-2628-432A-9793-403F23F29486.jpeg DE9D9F48-9D31-40C0-90EC-8F1DBD0507AC.jpeg

Hogged out a few more holes.
Shimmed the Radiator up a little.
Shimmed back side of Drake hood ornament.
To get it to tip down more in the front.
And now the Grill, Hood & Ornament fit pretty decent.
So bottom side of Ornament rear will have to be milled down to proper angle.

I sold the '35 coupe to buy a '36 roadster. I then sold the '36 roadster to purchase the pieces to put together a '32 roadster. Good luck with your '36 coupe.

Yesterday, locked self in shop .
Hogged out a few more holes.
Shimmed the Radiator up a little.
Shimmed back side of hood ornament.
To get it to tip down more in the front.
And now the Grill, Hood & Ornament fit pretty decent.
So the Drake repro 36’ hood ornament will need the upper mount milled down , so it angles more forward.
Finally- you all know that feeling

Did a little photo shoot with the '36 recently. Always loved the lines of these cars.

I'm a Washington Blue fan too! If this one hadn't had so much character in that original black paint, I would have opted for Washington Blue.

noticed you running the slingshot like mine...I have dual 97s..progressive linkage...have to warm the old flattie up quite a bit to get rid of the icing up in the intake..you had any issues with that or is that coastal , sea level issue?

No icing issues from my side and I'm only 400' above sea level. I'm running mine direct; how do you like the progressive linkage?

I like it as it allows the drive around the city to be more efficient without dumping fuel. When I ask the second carb to kick in at around 60% throttle it responds nicely..I am not running a performance flattie at all so cruising around on 2 barrels is ample for me. I have not messed round with jetting either.
We may get spanked for chatting on this thread about details!;)

  20. hard to say where the reproductions are being made these days.. I should have kept my original hood emblem.. The repops suck for sure.. great to hear you got things fitting well ..

    Rob.
Well at least now can take apart. Remove Fenders, inner fenders and boards.
Leave Radiator and Rods in set position.
Hopefully get 68’ 283 & T5 shoehorned in between really really nine unmolested Firewall & Radiator.
GM SB short pump. , mechanical fan.

Hammer and Dolly locked away at this time in Parts Room.
    Time will tell . . .

Zero firewall cutting required. Original Delco distributor or Mallory flattop, small water pump with fan boss pressed down the shaft, find pulleys to line the crank with the pump and a suitable fan with blades bent back for radiator clearance (60s Chrysler 6 cyl fan works). 60s C10 RH exhaust manifold on LH side for steering box clearance, make an alternator or generator mount to suit. Electric fuel pump or raise the motor/adjust the crossmember. Good luck.

3/4 inch clearance fan blade to original radiator at the top (closest point), minimal about 1/8 inch clearance right valve cover to firewall. I am using CE front mounts and gearbox mount and homemade anti chatter rods to prevent engine front/rear movement.

mvee, on your CE front mounts, is top of mount on top of frame , or under ?

  29. Need to address the cooling issue on my car during the summer.. may need to get a fan shroad on it .. hate to do it
but a electric fan may be the answer.. It just doesn't cool well in traffic while creeping along slowly.. Newer Walker Radiator before they closed and were bought out.. driving it at speed no issues.. h,,
