So far I've won both auctions in Andys honor, but I've got more to give;

    I would like to machine up Andy a shifter knob for his tudor. I was thinking I'd turn something up in the lathe, and leave the top flat.
    Then, in a circular pattern, I'll engrave HAMBANDY into the flat top, or I could have the letter's raised above the tops flat surface.

    OR, whatever Andy would like, it is his car after all :rolleyes: ;)

    Run this by him and ask him to draw up any ideas he has and pm or e-mail them to me.
    Or, he can PM me his phone # , and I'll call him to discuss it?

    I'm a master machinist and can carve any shape out of ANY material (steel, alum. wood, plastic, bone,),with a mill and lathe, All I need to know is what thread to put inside it so it will screw onto his shifter lever.

    Since it's going to be an automatic, I'll need to know what type of shifter he's gonna use, and if it needs a push button to release it from park

    I could tap it and provide a piece of round stock steel threaded into it, that could be welded to any shifter handle??

    Let me know,

    I'd love to provide a bitchin "1 of a kind" part to Andys car:cool:

    maybe Ryan would authorize a one off HAMB shift knob...he's running a four speed no? Make it just like the HAMB 4 sp shifter sticker...if Ryan would allow that.

    Thanks Shane, I'm doing my best to give back to the HAMB community that I've gained sooo much knowledge from over the past 3 years.

    Andy has handled himself very well considering what he's going thru, and thats givin me the motivation to "keep on keeping on" with my medical problems, and my own build.

    Heres a piece of the PM Leon sent me, and I wanted to see what the rest of the HAMB thought about these ideas;

    =================================================

    When i brought Andy to the hamb at first there was a member who made him a soldier skull shifter knob, it was his first piece of his hot rod.

    Now.............i have a great idea..... well , it may be great...it could be stupid....well here it goes.

    Can you machine a column drop? With HAMBANDY in it or just HAMB? Or a brake pedal that says HAMB or HAMBANDY. Heck a steering wheel.....i'll let you be the judge. But i think a 1 of a kind piece from you (and i would put your name on it...)would be a class act on his ride.Maybe a license plate topper....heck i dont know....lol

    Eric, this project means a lot to me. I thought i was alone in trying to make this young man smile. Guess i was way off base on that thought.

    So what ya think'n?

    Regards
    Leon

    =================================================

    I can build the column drop, no problem. I will need to know the exact (+ or - .001) outside diamater of the column, as well as how much drop and how it's gonna be mounted to the dash.

    Is he gonna run the steering wheel thats attached to the dodge column?, cause I could also make him a horn button insert, with HAMBANDY going in a circular pattern.

    I can also build him a brake pedal pad, or entire brake pedal assembly. The pedal pad can have any shape he wants, with anything like raised lettering or engraved lettering on it

    I have access to a lathe big enough to turn up a steering wheel, and I could add a HAMBANDY horn button to it as well.

    A special edition plate topper is also a great idea!!!!

    I'll build any and/or all of these parts for him,
    whatever he wants, he'll get!

    What do you guys think?

    I'm gonna go play around with some ideas in Autocad, see what I can come up with.

    Please give your input guys, I've got some ideas, but I know others might have better ideas, and since this is a HAMB build, we should share in these endevors.

    Pm me anything ya'll think of, or post it here.

    I check this thread daily.

    Thanks for letting me help ;)

    I think no billet steering wheels...then he couldn't be HAMBANDY anymore!

    Hell machine it out of steel or stainless then. I've got a 58 Chevy wheel around here somewheres if he wanted to go that route.

    I thought only store bought billet was bad, I didn't know home made parts from billet alum. wasn't ok??

    Here's an idea for a brake pedal, and a 4" column drop.

    Good old skool hot rodding at its finest is the only medicine for this kid. I wonder would Ryan approve the HAMB logo for a plate topper or brake pedal? I guess aluminum would be almost a must for a plate topper.................good grief. lol

    But after considering everything, i will only do what is best for this project, and if it has to be aluminum.....let it be. The #1 priority here is Andy.

    Aluminum maybe easier and quicker to work...............or steel could, or brass...or....or...

    Eric i'll pm you bout a few ideas...................again they could be dumb;)

    Well, then it's a good thing I cut steel as well as I cut alum.

    Here's another take on the column drop;

    Wasn't trying to start anything,just typing out what I was thinking. Keep it as traditional and old school hot rod as possible....maybe machine an adapter to run a bitchin old steering wheel. Just my .02 FWIW

    I feel ya bro, I didn't think you were trying to stir up shit. I agree, we need to keep it as "old school" as possible.

    An adapter for an old wheel would be cool, and EASY to make.

    It's just as easy to cut steel as it is alum., but rust is a serious concern of Leons (moving violation), so we'll probably go the aluminum route. Or maybe copper or brass or.........

    I'm thinking maybe I'll have the column drop cast in alum, then machine only the I.D. for the column and the flat surface to mount it.

    The lettering will be "as cast" giving it a little bit more "non billet" look to it.

    Please, EVERY SINGLE HAMBER , give me some input on what this car would look best with, ideas for other bitchin "1-off" parts for it, you know, stuff like that.

    EVERYONES .02 is worth gold to me, as this is a HAMB build for Andy, not an elcornus build for Andy. I value each and every opinion that is givin, as that gives me better direction on which way to go with these parts!

    I'll be adding more drawing Ideas today.

    The steering hub is the tapered and keyed variety. Not sure about the old stuff but it seems you could make an adaptor easy enough. Or, just cut the steering wheel that I am sending off and attach to whats left.

    If you cut some stuff in copper, I think that would turn out awesome, haven't seen too many cars with copper parts on them, especially milled stuff. Brass might be cool as well but copper looks sweet! Leon should run this by Andy and see what he would like.

    Now that is team spirit.........HAMB build for Andy. I couldnt have said it better. Together we are making a little man smile, and right now that is worth more than all the $$$ in the world. It is a great boost for his attitude, and attitude is everything.

    As for brass, copper, aluminum...... I feel we can make the decision, as i am keeping all the parts a tease....you know..keep him positive and looking forward to every day.

    I stopped by Chris's place and picked up $ that was paid by visa for the build, and i got a nice box with a set of spanker flattie headers..... if im this over the top for this project, i can only think of how Andy feels.....And right now, feeling on top is very very important.

    Not only can we help Andy, we can heal the souls of those who participate.

    I don't normaly get all gushy or anything like that, but since this has started I truly feel better. I look to Andy's threads daily and hope to hear a positive word from the kid or any of the guys here. In the end the parts and pieces that are collected are just tat: parts and pieces. Without all of the drive and determination and yes: LOVE none of this would be happening. God bless this kid and let's get this car finished. I want to see some smoke coming off of those back tires. Andy if you read this we are all tehre with you even if just in spririt and can't wait till you drive this Hambone of yours.

    I haven't seen this addressed yet so here goes. When this thing is ready for the road it's going to need tires. I was thinking we could start a fund for tires only. That way everyone who contributed would know what their money went for and if Andy has an idea of what he would like to run we could get our HAMB discount through Coker and have a goal to shoot for.
    Leon, what is your thought on this? If it's a go I'm in for $100 to start it off. PM me with your thoughts and a place to send the money. Maybe an address just for this fund and post it here. Whatever you think is best.

    Frank, you have PM.

    Is there anyone here who deals with coker regularly to see if we can hook the hambandy discount. We do have an addie, i will send it to you.

    The further into this project we get, the more i feel like a better person. I keep telling everyone that i am going back to being an asshole after this build. But i have a promise to a couple hambers that we would help another deserving person next year.......

    And the paypal for Andys build is

    I like the copper idea for the column drop! Polished up that would look B-A-double-D! Or aluminum with the name and Hamb inlay filled with that plastic like material that was on the Hamb Lucky Star. I'll see if I can find the thread and some pics.

    I like incorporating the HAMB into some accessories. Only thing I would think about is putting HambAndy on stuff. If I was a kid I dont think I would feel very "cool" if I had my name permantly etched into my car. Maybe a plaque or something saying "made especially for HambAndy". Just an Idea from a 38 yr old kid!

    Wizzerick did this a few years ago. I really dig the translucent red. In the thread he says the red is Krylon Stained glass paint. I'm not sure how well it would turn out but it may be cool. I still vote for the polished copper though!

    I think the column drop would look even better in Bronze. Brighter color, stronger too (or you could make the cross section smaller?). My $.02 on that.

  27. I sure like what everyone is doing for Andy! My wife and I both work in the medical field, people with illness do need this kind of love and caring support. Can anyone at H.A.M.B. get Andy his own timing tag, thus removing the FNG status. I know he would really appreciate this. I will be contributing a little cash to the cause via PayPal, as soon as I load some $ into the account. God Bless.[IMG]

    Heres a drwing of a '30-'31 sedan, it's just a quick rendering for all you photo-shoppers to mess with.

    And I agree, bronze or copper would be baddass for the parts I'll machine for this car. I also agree we should use HAMB instead of HAMBANDY on the parts.

    I agree 100%

    Would be kool if Ryan gave us the green light to machine a lamb logo brake pedal or plate topper
