i'm not seeing it either. seems too close together for a hurst front mount, and why angled inward. not discounting, just wondering.
If there is a small piece like the gas door that has paint on it you might be able to buff it up and take it to a paint store to have it scanned so they could mix something pretty close to the original green that was applied.
There is an adapter bracket that fits between the Hurst saddle mount and the flathead mount. I dont have them and have to quest but I did have a set that I sold at a swap meet last summer because I was never going to build another car... ever ever.. The C to C on Hurst mounts are 20"
Yeah, that would be the style for sure. I think Jack needs one of them for his but I'm sure he already has one. I'm really hoping i can find more history on it as to the original builder and what clubs he belonged to. I hope he's still around so he can follow its return.
Nice ! 10 points for the (other) nomad guy! The factory style front mounts appear to be the solution to the mounts that are on the frame. While they look similar to a flathead mount, they're not.
Maybe the part that bolts to the above motor bolts to the brackets he has? There are bushings underneath those brackets.
Those are stock '49-'51 Mercury flathead motor mount spacers! The mount on the Merc water pumps sat on top of these spacers. The 3 holes on top are not stock, it should have had a stud sticking up. They could have very well sat a SBC on top of those mounts using the early 283 style brackets or something else or homemade, might account for the removal of the studs and addition of the extra holes. The same spacer is often used to put a 59AB flathead in 1933-34 Fords, had them in my '34 with a 59AB, and it's very similar to the u-shaped spacer that Ford sold for the job. Here's a picture, courtesy of google and Van Pelt Sales:
Some Mercury greens. I kinda like all of them! http://paintref.com/paintref/model/green_Mercury.shtml
^^^^^^ For sure Merc Stuff! Pics are mounts from my 50. The stud has been removed, and a few holes added.
love it. FYI seal the bolts on the block (fuel pump side), when u put the mount in. one of 'em goes into the block to hold up the pump shaft. you'll get a leak otherwise.
Here's a question for someone who's put a SBC in a Merc (not a ford shoebox) using Front mounts. Do you need a rear or front sump oilpan?
Well, after chasing endless leads, it looks like any trial of the OHooligans Hottie have dried up. So I feel a bit or at ease of building it back the way I want. As sure as nothing as soon as I start down that road, the guy will come out of the woodwork. This years goal will be to get the drive train in, get it on the road worthy in its present unrestored form. I have started to squirrel away a few goodies that'll be used along the way but nothing new- unless its for safety and all period correct.
A warm day ( anything above 0 seems warm these days) gave me a chance to go out and pull the interior to see what time has left me to work with. Usually the floors are pooched by the door pillars, this ones nice and clean. Back seat well is solid. Treasures under the back seat. I'll zip lock bag the goodies and put them back when the seat goes back in. A little ugly in the trunk, but not a disaster. Being the history of the car is not forth coming, I'm going to mildly customize it but no chop. A grill is on its way.
