  1. Well, you have done a great job saving another Olds Jimm. . That one sure looks pretty. Now about the oil filter adapter.......is that off of a 394 engine??? Seems I remember someone saying that you could use them but can't remember exactly.

Looks like maybe an adapter under it to go from four bolt to three?
Also looks like an easy way to get a spin on filter.

Looks like it might, I’m planning on using Noxious block hugger headers, how much for your spare adapter? BTW, where did you tie in the road draft to? Neat job all the way around!

Nochop I'll look tomorrow to see if I can find the other one and I'll take some better pics. The road draft adaptor I made it still uses the can in the lifter valley [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]i had to throw some more of the 303.

Will all the parts from a 1951 303 fit on a 324 short block, including the stick flywheel? 40 over should still have one more bore on a 324?
    Thanks

As long as it is not a 1956 324 it will fit. There is a cam size difference in 56.

Is the stamp the only way to tell the year? The casting number is 54 to 56? The is also a 4 by the casting number.
    Thanks

  11. under the edge of the head on one side of the block (ds?)there should be a small tab near the center with a cast number that will give you a much better idea. Back in this thread there is a list of the numbers. I will see if I can find it and repost it for you.

  14. Yes; up to '56. These early, high nickel blocks will take a large over-bore. Mine is .125 over; some guys have taken
them to .250, but that would be pushing your luck!

  16. My 54 324 is punched out and uses later 371 pistons. Runs well and does not overheat.

[IMG][IMG][IMG] How do you like my tool ? I know it's been done before, but I think I'm happier knowing I didn't need to cut up good parts to make a priming tool. Looking to get the engine primed this weekend[emoji12]

I’m wondering if you could make ( not you jjj) a “socket” to fit a distributor rotor to prime? Hmmmm....... I don’t have a distributor to waste

Were it engages in on the pump shaft I drilled a .500 hole then adjusted the set screw to fit the flat part of the pump shaft.

I carved down a spare distributor housing and took the teeth off both a hex drive and D drive gear so I can prime any early Olds engine.
I would not have sacrificed a distributor if it were my only one and they were hard to come by
I still have a few spares.. more around here somewhere..

Got a chance to go pickup the short block I was asking about. It is a 55 324. Only other parts it came with was the lower bell and a distributor. It is 40 over. Packed full of grease in the cylinders. Not sure if it is a good find yet? Should I be able to turn it over? 64AE438C-8E4B-4843-8FB6-76A30AC52CF5.jpeg 63176055-1AE9-45C3-BE60-4749513040A5.jpeg C1593A75-437F-403E-93BB-05C40C126605.jpeg
