The Hot Rod Ford that beat the Racehorse. the photos are here. the article is here and there is also a long story in Rodders Journal.,
By coincidence I was listening to The Rodcast podcasts by AHRF driving back from Back to the 50s this past Sunday. Episode #1 is a long interview with him about his life, hot rod culture in his day, and of course that car. It was fantastic. If you want to hear stories straight from the guys that lived it, I suggest them as good listens.
The picture of the deuce VS race horse and the 1949 shot Of Rex Mays death at Del Mar, were both taken with the same camera. Owned and loaned out by my dear late friend, Fred Lobello from San Diego. He used to lament that he loaned his camera out twice and both times it took a picture that made national news. But never with him using it!
I love Pete's roadster, however I don't quite understand how a quarter horse would beat any decent running car in a quarter mile, it could certainly win at a 100 yards or so. The world record for a quarter horse in a quarter mile stands at 20.6 seconds at 55 m.p.h. It's a great story though. Mick
