I like that De Soto grill on there. They make those tuckers in fiberglass now.

  5. This scoops fins have a casting flaw or someone tried grinding them off, I took a file and straightened the grooves up but you can see it's still wide in a couple spots.
So I thought about cutting the fins out, leaving the MPH section and replacing it with yellow plexiglass.
So a straight cut across under the MPH and not sure if keeping the "V" shape on bottom or just making it straight across like the top would be.
Or leave the center and cut out only the fins on each side, so there would be two plexiglass strips.
    Thanks in advance

  7. Thanks guys, I might be cutting this up for the twin, I like that one, cut the tall fin and leave the lip for the plexiglass to sit on.

I always thought the Edsel would not have been such a stylistic disaster if that grill would have been 2-3 times wider and rectangular and the bumpers thinner (I mean, Jaguar Mk X thin) so that the chin panel was slightly visible (B&W pic by William Garrett with his grandparents and uncle and their Edsel).

    Any takers?

1958 Edsel Final 2.jpg I think blade bumpers are too thin to work with the Edsel front. The problem for me was the bug out headlights combined with the too high horse-collar surround. It looks like design by committee. I swapped the bezels for '58 Ford units to tuck down at the bottom. I leveled the hood, redesigned the central unit, and extended the horizontal grille inwards. It's still not beautiful, but more cohesive, maybe.

Looks like a Lancer (or was that a Valiant?).

There is a similarity for sure but that was a step further I think, as was Studebaker's Lark. Adding: and of course there was the Chrysler 300C in 1957 and nobody ever called that ugly.

In the UK Aston Martin learned nothing from the Edsel's failure and came up with the Lagonda Rapide in 1961, managing to mess up the DB4's styling completely. Same problem, grill is too narrow.

That is one ugly front end. Kinda reminds me of something I woke up next to after a night of hard partying when I was in the Navy.:D

Looks damn near perfect to me as is but I'm looking forward to the pin stripe addition. Just a thought, maybe you could get the ot cars removed so it just the diner in the backdrop?
