Its been said that "He who dies with the most toys wins".
To that end some hoodlum hot rodders I worked with (@ FoMoCo R&E) started a game to see who actually owned the most cylinders capable of making power. The scoring was simple: A V8 got you 8 points. A V-Twin motorcycle got you two points. A garden implement like a chan saw or lawnmower got you one point. Outboards, snow machines, RC models - it was all fair game.
The game quickly devolved into sub-catagories of actual running operable power cylinders and power cylinders capable of making power someday, like a pile of flatties in the back yard waiting for a hot rod rebuild some day.
I suppose for the purposes of keeping it HAMB-friendly I could suggest only HAMB era machines count. But that still leaves a large swath of machinery, so a subset-of-a-subset could be wheeled HAMB era power cylinders, running, not running, yadda, yadda ad infinitum.
As I remember, you weren't even a playah without a score in the hundreds.
How about it? Who's gonna die with the most power cylinders? [Junk yard operators need not apply.]

I can’t even sit on the bench if it’s 65-earlier engines, going to see if I can get a good seat in the stands;)

Lol. I’d have to include two forklifts and a tractor just to get to 20, add in my dads old chainsaw, I’m at 21. In blackjack, I win!!!

Oh, boy it’s going to take me a while to compile my list at 10 +FEs, 8, Flat heads, seven +Y-blocks, ten SBFs, 5 Cushmans, several GMCs, several more Ford six cylinders, and several more non HAMB engine and host of HAMB era tractors and equipment! Not sure I can count that high!

Hehe! Yep, but I’m down in Texas and riding with my friends, can only get a little time, from time to to time to post! I’m having trouble remembering all what I have….I have been collecting since I was 10……61 years! Tons of stuff stacked it three barns , plus scattered in the trees where you can’t see them! Oh I just remembered…..I even have a 64 283 Chevy engine! Don’t know how that got into my hoard! Lol

There was a radio show in Minneapolis in the 80's or 90's called "Garage Logic" When you called in the first thing you would say after your name was your cylinder index. Which was how many internal combustion cylinders you owned. Didn't matter if they ran or not.

  12. 108 that are running. 94 of those are hamb friendly. Have probably another 15 or so engines not running. Yes I'm a hoarder.

How about cylinders in your house?
I just took a quick look in my basement (quick because it's flippin' cold down there this time of year), and counted 72. I'm sure there's more.
2-351 Ford, a couple 260s, a 221, numerous fours and sixes, lots of Briggs and a few Tecumsehs and assorted oddballs.

    Twelve go-kart motors popping
    Eleven Y-blocks whining
    Ten bangers barking
    Nine Hemis honking
    Eight straight-eights burbling
    Seven Nailheads rumbling
    Six Smallblocks screaming

    Five Golden Commandos!

    Four stalling turds
    Three French flatheads
    Two don't even run

And part of a Chevy 6 hangin' out there in the pear tree

    :D

My late friend Jim would have knocked this one out of the park. Me? Not a chance.

193 HAMB era cylinders. A 1917 Maytag washing machine motor is the one-lunger that makes it an odd number.

And 89 carburetor barrels including the ones on the shelf.

  20. 5-big block Mopars...2-small block Chevys...4-four cylinder Chevy II's...5-mini-bike Tecumseh's...1-Clinton on a generator. At least 65 carb barrels. Sounds like a lot, but sure doesn't put me in the running here! Gene.

If I stick to the rules, I have 8 (3 two cylinders and 2 single cylinders). So in this game, I am an interested spectator. All three of my "hot rods" are slightly too new.

But Ebbspeed, do you guys REALLY want to start a category on carburetor barrels on the shelf ??? :p
