so I am finally wrapping up the 5 inch chop on my pickup. Got the 327 running last week, everything is going real nice. I had to section the roof 4 ways and cut the middle out as suggested by brewsir. As I had been putting the middle back in after getting the 4 corners tacked together, it's a little flat, so I got a nice idea from a friend and cut up some leaf springs and set em up inside to give my roof back it's arch, it's working REALLY nicely. I don't have a picture right now but I'd like to post one for you all to see. It took me a good while to finally get myself out in the garage everyday after work to put this back together but it's finally coming to. And since my old lady and I are splittin up I won't have the garage anymore so I gotta get this thing on the road. New tires and a windshield (with the help of brewsir) after I get my taxes back, and then whatever else after that. I'll try and get a picture on here real soon. Peace out.

  3. It is quite possible to chop these trucks without cutting the top skin at all.....it seems that if quartered[widened] it would make for a real loose fit of windshield at the top?
A lot of mis-information floating around on choppin tops these days.....:D
I am chopping my 56 Suburban 5" without cutting it.....
Got any pics of your truck?
    sounds interesting.

Whoa.... oh nooooo. Tell me you didn't. Chops is right, don't think the windshield will fit, I've done these and never had to cut the roof skin. Remember the rule, it's easier to bend metal to fit glass then bend glass to fit metal. I assume being a 58 it has a wraparound windshield, I always cut the glass first before final welding on the frame. The frame HAS to be dead on, even close isn't close enough as it will crack the wing if there is any pressure on it.
